Default 'Empty Recycle Bin' problem after CC Install

Hello all

I have been a user of CCleaner for a few months now with no problems whatsoever, however, after installing the latest version (2.02.527) the standard XP Empty Recycle Bin command no longer works without throwing up the error 'Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk', however, before bringing up this error it does empty the Recycle Bin.

I can run CCleaner from the Recycle Bin context menu and it empties the Recycle Bin fine and without error.

I have checked the 'C:\Recycler' directory and there are no files or directories present.

Before installing the latest version of CCleaner I did have the previous version installed.

Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome.

Please do the following (I suggest you print this out first)

Open a Command Prompt window (Start > Run > Cmd) and leave it open. Close all open programs.

Click Start, Run, enter taskmgr and press OK in order to bring up Task Manager.

Next, go to the Processes tab and End Process on Explorer.exe.

That will leave you with a blank desktop, but don't worry...

Leave Task Manager open. Go back to the Command Prompt window , and type: rd /s c:\recycler in order to delete your Recycle Bin.

Answer Yes when prompted to confirm deletion.

NOTE: that command reads "rd (space)/s (space) c:\recycler"

Go back to Task Manager, click "Shutdown" in the Menu Bar and choose "Restart".

Your computer will reboot, and a new Recycle Bin will automatically be created. That ought to fix things.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately it has not fixed the problem.

Did you get the prompt to delete C:\recycler, and did you answer 'y' (yes) to that prompt?

Yes, I did get the prompt and did answer 'Yes'.

I even tried deleting the 'Recycle Bin' from my other partitions but I am still having the problem.

Can't you just delete any file and then right click the Recycle Bin and click 'Empty Recycle Bin' and it will reset?

Unfortunately this does not work.

The error still appears and then after clicking 'OK' the newly deleted file gets deleted.
