Hello,
After using CCleaner to clean the Windows registry, my default apps reset to the Windows defaults after every reboot.
For example, if I set Chrome as the default browser, after restarting the laptop it switches back to Edge.
The same happens with the PDF reader, email client, and other default apps.
IMHO the reg section is dangerous and should never be used in its current state. It finds too many false positives and removes all entries that it finds (unlike 6 which was gentle and asked each entry)
I’m using Windows 11. This all happened after a registry cleanup. Every time Windows starts, the system assigns default apps to Windows apps; for example, the default browser is Edge. If I change it to Chrome, on the next Windows restart it reverts to Edge. In other words, Windows doesn’t keep the default apps; it uses its own on every restart.
I’m absolutely certain it happened after a cleanup with CCleaner.
A quick search suggests that the issue you’re experiencing in Windows 11 is commonly linked to a corrupted user profile or damaged system files. Several quick fixes have been recommended in the Microsoft forums, and I would suggest trying those steps to see if they resolve the problem.
As mentioned earlier, I’ve tested this on my side and have not been able to reproduce the issue, so I believe that CCleaner was not the cause. If you’re able to resolve the issue and then encounter it again, specifically after using CCleaner, please let me know. I’ll be happy to investigate this further.
