Corrupted Thunderbird profiles

I ran Ccleaner a few days ago, and it wiped out most of Thunderbird. It is mentioned also on the Mozilla forums.

My address book is mostly gone. All of my message rules are gone.

I didn't make a backup copy before cleaning files, as I have never needed to up until now.

So, I assume there is no recovery available.

Hi Joe,

This user has suggested to try this to rectify the issue. I hope it helps.

The latest versions of CCleaner (say 5+) corrupt my Thunderbird files. In particular my saved searches in Thunderbird loose all their settings and become useless. CCleaner did not used to do this. I am using Thunderbird v 52+. I have found that when I stop having CCleaner do ANYTHING to my Thunderbird files, the problem went away. It is clearly due to CCleaner. It's not a show stopper, but I would rather CCleaner clean up internet related data created by Thunderbird.

Update your ccleaner, a patch was created which fixes the issue

Well, I do have another problem with Thunderbird after cleaning (leaving Thunderbird out). Version 6105. I am unable to contact my accounts any more (the connection was refused). Reinstalling Thunderbird does not change anything. Did not save data files and replace it, since when corrupted it will give the same result? Should I uninstall Thunderbird completely and start anew (loosing all)?

I just did. Removed Thunderbird completely, and installed anew. The program wants to create accounts, but cannot connect to mozilla (we cannot communicate with our registration server). Must I reinstall windows, or does anyone know what ccleaner deleted?

And then I discovered, BullGuard firewall removed apparently the Thunderbird allowance selectively. Should have tested first, but who the heck ...

Luckily most of my accounts were imap, but I lost my add-ons (which were they?) and so on.
