When I run CCleaner some cookies are not being deleted. I have discovered that these are in Options/Cookies/Cookies to keep. They are: piriform (with *), facebook, google, login.live, twitter and yahoo. I did not put these in "Cookies to Keep" so how have they got there? Are they there for a reason? To get rid of them do I just click the arrow facing left? Any help please.
I know if you initiated an Intelligent Scan (only available via right-clicking in the Cookies to Keep pane) that will put piriform.com and other persistent logins such as email sites, etc., into the Cookies to Keep pane - CCleaner will not do this on its own to my knowledge.
It's very easy to get rid of the cookies by highlighting one, or all at of them in the Cookies to Keep pane to remove those you don't want and then click the <- button to move them into the Cookies to Delete area. After doing that run CCleaner to have it delete the cookies.

This is a mystery. I have not initiated an intelligent scan and I wasn't aware that there were any cookies in "Cookies to Keep" until I looked. I haven't signed into Facebook for about five years, I do not subscribe to Twitter and I haven't used Yahoo for years either. Login.live is something to do with a Microsoft Account but I only registered with that last month. I don't know why Piriform includes an asterisk.
Apart from Piriform all these cookies appear in the Intelligent Scan list but how they got into "Cookies to Keep" is a mystery. I will clear most of them out.
Many thanks for your reply.
the asterisk is a wildcard (but I'm sure you knew that)
maybe an Intelligent Scan has been run without your knowledge, for example, have you installed a new version of CC recently, as I think you are prompted for one then and the box is pre-ticked?
Yes, I bought a new computer at the end of September and re-installed CC but didn't realise I had done an intelligent scan.
Yes I did know that an asterisk is a wild card. I am sorry I am being a bit slow on the uptake here. I'm what you might call a silver surfer!
Anyway thanks for your help, appreciated.
