My WMV player still keeps the the icons and names of the various pictures I've downloaded and transferred off of my laptop to an external HD. Is there any way to remove them from the Libraries (pictures and videos)?
Have you tried CCleaner ?
I'm assuming you mean the folder display?
Delete the thumbs.db file from the folder. It can be found by enabling yourself to see system and hidden files (view -> options -> show hidden files -> show system files)
If it's something in windows media player, you may need to rebuild the libraries, and im not certain how that's done. (Doctor Nergal may know.)
Thank you for the 2 replies so far...and Alan, yes, I have CCleaner!
When you (Winapp2.ini) say "folder display" all I know is that when I open WMV Player the individual pictures (or vids, depending on what you are looking at) are represented by icons, even though the pics or vids are long gone...From WMV>Organize>Manage Libraries>Pictures>Pictures Libraries Locations...I removed the two folders that were previously there (from Explorer>Libraries>Pictures folder (and another folder I created)), but the icons stubbornly remained. When I went back to Explorer, I had to put one of them back, since they were now gone from Explorer and I would need to have a folder there.
When opening CCleaner, from Cleaner>Windows>Advanced has nothing checked (as per default) so what if I checked all the boxes under "Advanced", will this get rid of the offending icons? or will this super cleaning create even more confusion for me? From Cleaner>Applications>Multimedia>, all the apps are checked, including WMV and Media Center...so why isn't it cleaning them?!
I am surprised that this is not even a discussion topic here! Am I the only one who has extinct picture and video icons in his Libraries?
Oh, I see what you're saying. You're referring to panes inside wmp itself. I was mistaken.
You may be able to fix this by flushing your databases and rebuilding them, though I'd imagine that to be a bit of a pain. Perhaps someone who uses WMP can chime in.
I wonder if doing something like this would help? I have never done this myself and of course don't even know which version of WMP you have or even which operating system you run. Perhaps you could post this info.

Thank you Hazelnut, I tried your fix but the extinct icons are still there....

He's running Windows 7 (title). Probably WMP 12 or higher if I had to guess.

Just checking you were paying attention
Johnny if you right-click on one of the icons where does it say the file location is?
