Cleaner 5.23 Increases Timeout for Screensaver and Monitor Standby Timeout

If I run this version of CCleaner my Screensaver Timeout Increases beyond set time of 15minutes. Also Monitors going into standby increases beyond set time of 25minutes. Both functions do happen but happen later than times I have set for them. If I do not run CCleaner then problem never happens. Is consistent. Please developers fix this one too. Also does anybody know which feature of CCleaner might be causing this?

Also default setting of MS search clean being enabled is a problem as wipes out Search Index which then needs rebuilding. This should be default on install of CC set to disabled not enabled.

Hi Gary and welcome,

do you also run the registry cleaner or any other enhancements to CC?

does the problem go away if you revert to v5.22?

do your screensave timeout settings change or are your preset values simply not adhered too?

what Windows version?

as to the MS Search default setting, different users are going to want it set to different initial values.

it's probably one of those situations where you check out a program and customise it for your needs before you run it for the first time.

after all, people use CC to remove crap and history, so after running CC, if they find their search history still in tact that may cause them surprise.

personally, I'd rather see CC have no default settings. it assumes to clean nothing unless you tick the boxes, that way only the user is to blame for removing stuff from their PC.

but some users have no idea what to clean, so a "I don't know what I'm doing, just assume the safest settings" would be good - which is the current approach I'd say.

Hi mta and thanks for reply.

No never use Registry Cleaner as sometimes it gets things wrong. Based on past experience...no such thing as a perfect registry cleaner.

Reverted back to go 'ol version: 5.18 and problem persists but started after update to the latest buggy 5.23 ....probably because latter version has changed something that has stuck within OS Windows7 Professional 64bit. Dual monitor setup

Screensaver and Monitor timeout settings do not change but preset values not adhered to...always 'delayed' and by 10>20minutes. Rarely screensaver does not run and monitor goes into standby.

If set to any of these: No screensaver, standby in 20min...prob persists

varied screensaver timeout and standby timeout...prob persists

Should mention that no matter what settings exist, screensaver and standby of monitors still work and happen, but only delayed. Problem is not consistent as most time screensaver and monitors standby occurs at correct timeouts.

Have reset power plan setting to default and does not fix problem.

Enabling selection to clean MS Search in 5.23 destroyed the search index so search not possible. I just rebuild the index via Indexing Options and disable MS Search cleaning by CC so problem is fixed.

I rebuild the index every 3months or so and with a powerful PC and 5TB of data it takes about 4hours but I do not wish to do this every fortnight which is interval I run CC. 5.23 did more than just clean the history of search ... it broke the index.

If you can shed any light at all on my timeout issues with screensaver please let me know. Thankyou Gary

clutching straws here now....

do you use the Monitoring function in CC, or in other words, do you have the Pro version?

Use free version so no monitoring enabled at all. Thanks anyway mta.

sorry then Gary, that's me out of ideas.

not that it's any help to you, but it's the first time I've heard of your issue, so (hopefully) it's just you. (yeah - lucky you) :)

also, the Dev Team do read all threads so it's now on their radar.

maybe another member with other ideas will chime in.
