Clean Windows Store cache

Until such time that this is baked into CCleaner.

How to Clear the Windows Store Cache in Windows 8

Information: This tutorial will show you how to clear the Windows Store cache in Windows 8.

Note: This will not delete any of your installed apps.

Here's How:

1. Press the Windows+R keys on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.

2. Type WSReset.exe, and click/tap on OK.

3. The Store will now open, and state the following: The cache for the store was cleared. You can now browse the store for apps

Unsure what it removes yet, however My Store access seems (marginally) faster in loading screens

OK According to RegShot the following were removed

%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache\*.log
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows Store\Cache Medium IL\{0-8 folder}\*.dat (excluding \0\0-ProductTileByProductGuid-*.dat and emptying (deleting and recreating maybe) \1\1-StartService.dat )
%LocalAppData%\Packages\WinStore_{Maybe Private Key?}\AC\INetCache\{Make Empty Random Letter folders}
%LocalAppData%\Packages\WinStore_{Maybe Private Key?}\AC\Microsoft\Windows Store\Cache\{0-8 folder}\*.dat (excluding Consumer and Name space keys (recreated?))
%LocalAppData%\Packages\WinStore_{Maybe Private Key?}\AC\Microsoft\Windows Store\Data\history.dat
Modified
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows Store\Checkpoints\{MaybeprivateKey2}.ini
Modified %localappdata\Packages\WinStore_cw5n1h2txyewy\AC\Temp\winstore.log

My computer was busy while I did this so there may have been a bit more that I missed

[Windows Store Cache*]
LangSecRef=3022
Detect=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows
DetectOS=6.2
Default=False
FileKey1=%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache|*.log|RECURSE
FileKey2=%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows Store\Cache Medium IL\*|*.dat|RECURSE
ExcludeKey1=FILE|%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows Store\Cache Medium IL\0\0-ProfuctTileByProductGuid-*.dat
ExcludeKey2=FILE|%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows Store\Cache Medium IL\1\1-StartService.dat
FileKey3=%LocalAppData%\Packages\WinStore_*\AC\INetCache\*|*.*|REMOVESELF
;FileKey4=%LocalAppData%\Packages\WinStore_*\AC\Microsoft\Windows Store\Cache\*|*.dat
; ^ needs exclude keys, not sure what consumer and name space keys are
FIleKey5=%LocalAppData%\Packages\WinStore_*\AC\Microsoft\Windows Store\Data|history.dat
FileKey6=%LocalAppData%\Packages\WinStore_*\AC\Temo|*.log

Kinda?

Tested removing this whole folder \cache\ and it all rebuilds for me

FileKey4=%localappdata%\Packages\WinStore_*\AC\Microsoft\Windows Store\Cache|*.*|REMOVESELF

also thanks Nergal for mentioning regshot. That works A lot faster then what I was using

note I cannot yet confirm that those marked private key are indeed private strings and not the same across the board. Coffee Joe after the deletion did store complain at all? Are you still able to download free apps (I won't ask you to buy one, though am concerned for breaking that aspect via doing this)

Winapp2 looks good except some of the excludes may be recreated (as their size is 0 and I don't know what they were for sure (testing just shows they've changed in regshot)

@winapp2 you're running win8 correct? If yes then, so long as you keep it private, I'll send you a (mostly) unaltered regshot list via pm when I return to my pc

Store didn't have any complaints, no errors in the event log, none of my settings for the store changed. I was able to install and uninstall apps without any issues.

Awesome thanks for checking that

Yes I have Windows 8 on my laptop and can test Windows 8 related things. What is a regshot?

Hello,

I tried

1. Press the Windows+R keys on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.

2. Type WSReset.exe, and click/tap on OK.

3. The Store will now open, and state the following: The cache for the store was cleared. You can now browse the store for apps

"

but I receive an error popup

"ms-windows-store:purgecaches

invalid value for registry"

Recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Unsure. Try rebooting then clearing the store caches. Can you still open the store normally?

If not, I'd say try manually deleting the files listed above (either with explorer or ccleaner)

This method is from windows 8. If you've taken the 8.1 update I don't know if it works still, I've yet to start my pc and update, note have I used this method since the posting

You'd be best served asking at eightforums

@Nergal

As far as I know the WSReset is still used on Win 8.1

@Emile

Perhaps try re-registering the Store
