Chrome Not Fully Cleaned

After running CCleaner, Chrome's history *appears* to be deleted, but typing in the URL bar elicits auto-completion suggestions of websites I visited before the cleaning. So, there is a history file that CCleaner is not deleting. I can fix this problem by manually clearing my browsing history in Chrome, but this is what I have CCleaner for.

I haven't enabled syncing, so I don't believe these suggestions are coming from online.

Any insights into this matter?

thanks,

CCfan

My system:

Windows 7

Chrome, v. 17

CCleaner, v. 3.14.1616

See if this helps: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=34801

Also you could try latest CCleaner which is v3.15.1643 (25 Jan 2012).

Thanks, Nodles.

I took the recommended measures (upgraded CCleaner and disabled running processes of Chrome during the clean), but the issue remains.

I discovered that Chrome's url suggestions are previous "search engines" that I've used on other websites, which means their search boxes.

Thus, if I use the search box on dailykos.com or thefemalegspot.com both websites will remain in my "search engine history" which CCleaner ignores.

(Btw, not all search boxes get registered and saved by Chrome)

You can see your own search engine history by right-clicking on the url bar and clicking "Edit search engines."

I can delete the history within Chome, but this is exactly what CCleaner was designed to do.

This guy noticed the problem first but didn't elicit a satisfactory response:

Any thoughts?

Nothing constructive to add I'm afraid. Just to say that with Chrome, if you suffer a crash for whatever reason and close the browser and perform a thorough clean, then when the browser is reopened it will politely remind you of the crash and offer to reopen your last page. Obviously quite a lot of information is being retained.
