"CCleanerCrashReporing" sheduled task issue.

Hello,

when this task execute, it opens cmd on my monitor for half a second then it close it. Its very annoying see this pop-up every day. This task should be done invisible in background.

Windows 7 64bit, CCleaner 6.06

That's very odd, as that should be done in the background as you report.

Would you be kind enough to generate a debug log as described here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360048363751 and then please contact our support team via the Contact Us form located here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=86507 or by emailing support@ccleaner.com directly, including the generated debug log, so that this could be investigated further?

Indeed, this is intended to run silently in the background without the window appearing. Just by way of update, the devs have this captured as a bug for investigation.

Here too. The window is appearing.

I am seeing this same behaviour (with 6.08.10255). Is it fixed in 6.09.10300? Command prompt very briefly appears and disappears - too quick to capture a screenshot. According to Task Scheduler, it had just run the CCleanerCrashReporting task.

It is still happening with v6.09.

It happens once a day and always at the same time each day.*

I guess that it isn't high on the list to be fixed.

*I've found that you can change the trigger time in Task Scheduler so that the task will run at a time less likely to annoy you.

(But I’ve deliberately set it to a time when I will see it, so that I can see that it’s still happening).

I have the problem too (or I did before, in an act of over-kill, I set the task to be hidden - via a box in the Windows Scheduler - and disabled it entirely). See this post of mine.

Yes it’s still happening .

You can of course just disable/delete the scheduled task, but it will be re-enabled by the next CCleaner update so you’d have to disable/delete it each time there’s a CCleaner update.

Changing when it is scheduled to run is kept across updates - so you’ll only need to do it the once.

The steps below schedule it to run at Windows Startup rather than at a set time, and it’s that quick you won’t notice it run.

  1. Open the Windows Start menu and type: Task
  2. Select Task Scheduler and open it.
  3. In the Task Scheduler select ‘Task Scheduler Library’, right-click on ‘CCleanerCrashReporting’, and select ‘Properties’ in the context menu.
  4. In the properties dialogue that opens select the ‘Triggers’ tab, select ‘Edit’
  5. Set the task to run at Startup:
  6. OK out and close Task Scheduler.

Job done and you shouldn’t be bothered by it again.

Thanks nukecad

These cmd shell popups had me rather spooked.

It still hasn't been fixed.

Bad Piriform.

This s***ty behaviour is already aware, not fixed, version 6.20.10897 64-bit.

It's annoying playing a game and when the ccleaner crash reporting is starting my game stops and switches to desktop because the cmd shell pops up.

What a nuisance, a now go.

Regards, Thilo

Just disable that scheduled task in task manager. It exist only for crash reporting, so its safe to disable.

If you just disable it then it will be re-enabled with the next CCleaner update, so it's better to set it to run at startup as explained above.

I found that disabling this rule in task will re-enable once CCleaner installs new version. I also tried independently to change rule to only run at startup and it produced a vague error and could not perform action. So I had to cancel the attempt to startup or run at startup. The reason being for the disabled setting is that when I render video from Davinci Resolve Studio; The interrupt to run the task produces a chirp or stutter in audio on the render. As I turn off my screen saver on long renders without having to blank my screens; I cannot afford interruption on projects for NASA and family content So please let me know how and when rule can be made accessible to start on startup only. I run Win 10 latest build.

Whatever design rule while enabled , I get Message box appearing to read as "An error has occurred for task CCleaner Crash Reporting. Error Message: One or more of the specified arguments are not valid. " I was careful to change settings but in every mode- startup, login on a schedule etc - same message appears so I cancel out then disable it. I now have to remind myself when seeing an update get installed to go back in task scheduler and disable said rule again. There has got to be a way consistent and static that will not let rule run even on a return of a new update forcing the rule I disabled to be automatically updated as enabled. Please reply Thank you

Just create and keep a PowerShell script that will automatically disable it. See here:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/scheduledtasks/disable-scheduledtask?view=windowsserver2022-ps

There are a couple of ways to deal with it if it is annoying you, and/or interfering with you computer use.

(PS. I did post this in more detail above but it got scrambled during the forum platform migration. I’ve tidied it up again now but it’s lost the images that were there).

The best way is to change the trigger (as detailed step-by-step in my April 2023 post above) so that the CCleanerCrashReporting runs at system startup and not at a set time each day.
That way it still runs to see if there are any CCleaner error logs and report them if there are any, - but you will not be bothered by it while working/browsing/streaming.
That change will also survive through updates to a new CCleaner version.

Alternatively you could add the task itself to the Custom Clean ‘Includes’, which will then will look for and remove the task each time you run Custom Clean.
So when an update puts the ‘missing’ task back just running Custom Clean will remove it again.
That of course does mean that the task never runs, so can never report any error logs back to CCleaner.

The task to add as an Include for Custom Clean is simply:
C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\CCleanerCrashReporting

Noting both ways as you mention to alter the setting- all changes to any choice other than disable presents a error message as stated before.
I tried to post up 2 jpg’s referencing error message on posting media. Go figure. What is correct procedure even to do this to provide feedback to you all. I get when trying anything else either to disable or leave original as enabled. I know I am not that dense in following guidelines. Please help.

I also tried independently to change rule to only run at startup and it produced a vague error and could not perform action.

I don’t know just what has got screwed up with the task here but I would try reinstalling your CCleaner.
Download an installer from here (use the ‘Slim’, 3rd one down) and double click the downloaded file to do a new install: CCleaner - Download Builds
DON’T uninstall your existing CCleaner first and the new install should pick up your licence key and settings automatically. (But make a note of your key first anyway, just in case).

Then try again setting the Crash Reporting task to run at startup.
