I'm running windows xp and when I shut the computer off at night it automaticly runs any microsoft updates that are needed before shutting down. Can I set up ccleaner and defraggler to automaticly run when I select system shudown ?
You can launch CCleaner with
CCLEANER /AUTO /SHUTDOWN
That will clean your machine and then shutdown the P.C.,
and Updates can then happen as usual.

The problem is, when I double click the icon, the ccleaner main page comes up and I don't have the option to change the launch criteria...
Just drag/drop to the desktop a short cut to CCleaner.
Double click the short and it works as you say.
Now right click the short-cut and select properties
I see as the "Target" something like
C:\Program Files\Cleaner\Cleaner.exe
and I append " /AUTO /SHUTDOWN"
C:\Program Files\Cleaner\Cleaner.exe /AUTO /SHUTDOWN
That should do what you need.
I did as you recommended and got an error box that says the target area selected is not valid....
You may have the spacing wrong, and in case you deleted them, you need the inverted commas. Copy and paste this ...
"C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" /AUTO /SHUTDOWN
Make sure you don't miss the inverted commas at the beginning of the line.
Sorry I forgot the quotes. Like I said "something like" ! ! !
I simply took my own short-cut as a basis because I use the portable version hence
H:\Utils\CCleaner\Cleaner.exe /AUTO /SHUTDOWN
which has no quotes because the path is "DOS LEGAL" - i.e no spaces.
Sucess ! I have no idea what was wrong the first time as I did a cut and paste to be sure I got it right..Worked this time, thank you..
If it's of any use to you, I have my shortcut in the "Quick Launch" menu.
One click, clean and shutdown, and there's a different icon available for that if you want to distinguish it from the regular CCleaner icon ...

Just thought I'd mention it.
