Suddenly CCleaner will not open. I get message: Event Set Information Could Not Be located
ADVAPI32.dll not found
What happened and how can I fix it?
Please keep it simple. I am not a computer whiz. Thank you.
Just to note that Malwarebytes had had a major version update with a new User Interface since that linked article was written, it works in generally the same way but the screens are slightly different.
So don't be surprised if/when you install Malwarebytes and it looks like this rather that the one in that article:
Are you using Windows 10 or Windows 11?
Have you used the registry cleaner in CCleaner?
Is your security software up to date and all scans are clean?

I have been having the same problem but didn’t have time to research it. I am running Windows 7 and after the last several updates, I kept receiving the message “Procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located in ADVAPI32.DLL”. After researching, I was lucky in finding a known problem similar to this. The solution for me was to install the Windows 7 update KB3080149-x64. Everything appears to be working correctly as of today. I hope this helps someone else.
