CCleaner vs. CCCleaner

Just a warning, don't confuse CCleaner with CCCleaner. I accidentally downloaded CCCLeaner and it is malware, my AVG Cloud Care removed it.

try to always get any software from the official website and you'll be right. :)

Just to inform in a more accurate way about this subject.

I was updating an old version of ccleaner (piriform) from inside ccleaner itself and I was prompted by a windows to choose where to download it:

filehippo site or piriform site.

I was considering it was the same and started from filehippo.

Unfortunately I did not make the right choice, because filehippo is a site that deliberately confuses the navigation, leading you to download a different program (due to adds motivations).

Anyway, the worst thing is that I downloaded CC-Cleaner (unknown author, supported by http://ccleaner.online/)instead of CCleaner (by Piriform).

CC-Cleaner is clearly a fraud, because it gives a low quality program using a name similar to Ccleaner, with the intention to cheat the user and sell a different low quality program package at higher price.

I think that filehippo.com and “ccleaner.online” have the same gross negligence and Piriform should protect its own image by publishing a strong Formal Notification.

FileHippo is best surfed using a browser running an adblocker extension, eg, uBlock Origin.

that way a lot of the false offerings are removed, but due diligence is still required.
