Is there a way to speed up the process when I am wiping the free space on my computer? I have about 393 gigs of free space that must be wiped. It can take 18-24 hours to finish. Any hints or advice? Thanks.
no shortcuts I'm afraid.
that free space has to be overwritten and there's no way around that physical fact.
even a low-level format using MS tools will be on par to your times.

Ran a free space wipe and it took 23 hours, but hey, who cares, the most important thing is that the wipe was succsefull, and I got a well deserved sleep in
My first 'wipe free space' took around 9 hours, which was fine. Now it seems to increase the time it takes each time... it is now 25 hours. I realise that on a 1TB drive with 845GB free space that even on low-level setting (used through 'Tools') it will take time, but why is the time increasing on each use?
have you ruled out the obvious suspects; PC in use?, background activity?, more space to wipe compared to last run?, any scheduled events (eg: AV software scans)?, any automated events (eg: Windows updates)?
just throwing ideas out there...
try doing a wipe with the PC in Safe Mode and the ethernet/wifi disabled.

Thanks, I'll do a Sherlock Holmes at least knowing what I should be looking for.
