CCleaner V7.3 “Keep Cookies” from trusted sites does not work

I posted this originally on Oct 14 2025 (see below).

Today, I tested this again on the new version of CCleaner (7.3.1120.1339) using Edge (7.3) and Chrome (143) and it appears this major bug has not been addressed at all (i.e. Cookie preservation with site whitelist simply does not work at all).

Despite whitelisting these sites, none of these had the cookies, site data preserved in CCleaner 7.3:

-yahoo.com
-amazon.com
-bandsintown.com
-coinbase.com
-eyebuydirect.ca
-facebook.com
-goodreads.com
-instagram.com
-linkedin.com
-nytimes.com
-theglobeandmail.com
-thestar.com
-ticketmaster.com
-tvmaze.com
-youtube.com

All these sites work fine on CCleaner V6.39 and previous.

I am eager to upgrade to 7.x, but cannot until this functionality works as intended.

In the new CCleaner Version 7, “Keep Cookies” from trusted sites does not work (e.g. I log into NY Times site and preserve the site, but it logs me out after I clean).

ccleaner 7 > custom clean > settings > cookies > keep cookies from trusted sites > added [NYTimes]

I have been a user since V3.x. This function has been working flawlessly from 3.x to 6.x. I did more testing on V7, and it appears to be a major bug. Of the sites I tested below, only 2 sites had cookies preserved and kept me logged in:

facebook - does not work
NYTimes - does not work
pixabay - works
x - works
yahoo - does not work
youtube - does not work
Tested on:

CCleaner 7.0.984.1153
Windows 11 25H2 Build 26200.6725
MS, Edge 141.0.3537.71

Hi @hmsccleaner,
I have tested this for nytimes.com and I am not able to replicate the issue in Custom Clean.
Please could you send me a screenshot of the Cookies menu in Custom Clean showing your exclusions?

Like everyone else saved cookies are not saved but are deleted. This program is totally worthless. I am not going to put up with this crap anymore. I went ahead and deleted the program and will never install this POS again. Will use Edge to manage my cookies.

Hi @Steven_Todd,
As per my previous post in this thread, I was not able to replicate this, and things like logins and saved passwords were not deleted when I added the website to the cookies list.
If you are experiencing this issue, please send me an example of a site you are experiencing this with and the specific information that is lost when you clean.
If you can also send me a screenshot of the cookies settings screen with the site added, this will help me with my investigation into this issue.

Here is a screen shot. Re-tested again today and can confirm Cookies are not being preserved despite being whitelisted.

@hmsccleaner,
Can you remove the www from these and retest to let me know if this resolves the issue for you.

Hello,

Yes - I can confirm that if I remove the “www.” subdomain prefix from the primary domain (use ~nytimes.com instead of ~www.nytimes.com), the whitelisted cookies I provided for this test are preserved.

However, there are some concerns this this as follows:

  • CCleaner 7.x imports the subdomain list from my browser favorites.
  • When I add a domain to my favorite, my browser (Edge, Chrome), automatically adds the “www.” to the domain. This means that for each favorite, I would need to manually remove the “www.” in the URL before importing to CCleaner 7.x (my favorites list is much longer than the test case here).

CCleaner V6.x had the option to export/import a preserved cookie list to a separate .txt file which could easily be maintained. Can we have a similar option here for the site preservation list?

Also, a fix to 7.x to be able to handle the prefix would also make sense.
