CCleaner Software Update - reports wrong version for Slack when Slack installed from Microsoft Store - and fails to update the version or installed version info

I use Slack installed from the Microsoft Store, it is on the latest version and everything works great. I have checked Windows Add/Remove Apps - and only one version of Slack is installed. I have updated all other software, cleaned the registry and rebooted.

Still – CCleaner reports an old version for Slack, that does not match the installed version on Windows. I also have screenshots, but key version info for each app is:

Windows 11: Windows 11 Pro v23H2; build 22631.4974
CCleaner: 6.33.11465
Slack installed version: 4.42.120
Slack - version wrongly reported as installed by CCleaner: 4.0.2

CCleaner still shows Slack as needing to update, and fails when an update is attempted from CCleaner Update Software window.

I’m sure I had slack v4.0.2 installed in the distant past, but obviously Microsoft Store has been updating apps.

I have screenshots but apparently cant add them to posts even though this UI has the option to upload files.

Not being able to post images is because the new forum software saw you as a new user rather than as an existing member who hasn’t posted for a while.
I’Ve fixed it so you should be able to post images and links again now.

TBH if I even look at the Software Updater I use it as advice and not necessarily the truth.
Mistakes can be made with version numbers, either in the installed software, the softwares website, or the Software Updater listings.
So that’s at least three places where a wrong number, or a dot in the wrong place, in any one of them can give false results.

My best advice is to treat whatever it says as a suggestion, and if you don’t agree with what it is saying then ignore it.

Thanks for fixing up the ability to post - and for your comments. Understand your point on reliability of version numbers - hopefully the dev team takes this input and keeps chipping away to make version resolution better.
