CCleaner reliance on MS Webview (Error with Webview)

Since earlier this weekend when v7 was FORCED upon me I’ve had problems just getting it to start because of an MS-Webview error:

Error in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeWebView\Application\<>\msedgewebview2.exe Missing entry: --embed-brwoser-webview=1

It’s not just CCleaner generating the error, MS’s own PC Manager also causes the error. But this “need” for webview is as bad as when MS said Internet Explorer was “needed” for Windows 98 to work.

That being said, I have to stay with v6.9x, unless you know why this error happens and how to correct it. I’ve been in contact with MS about this error but they have not provided a solution yet.

As it’s also affecting MS apps then it sounds like a Windows System problem and not something that CCleaner could fix.

I assume that you have looked on the web for self-fixes that you could try/do?
I do note the ones I just looked at involve using Regedit and you might not be comfortable doing that.

Have you tried running DISM and SFC (System File Check) to see if they find and repair any System File errors?

Hi @Machinehead,
I have sent you a DM to request more details on the issue you are experiencing.

DISM and SFC didn’t find any errors, and I have found no working solution online as yet pending Microsoft’s response. One thing of note is I have MS Power Toys installed on my system. That required webview as well, but it works well without throwing the error.
