CCleaner Registry Cleaner Issue

I have a Windows XP-SP2 machine that only had WEP wi-fi authentication at time of purchase. I susbsequently installed Microsoft hotfix KB917021 to activate WPA authentication. When I run CCleaner (v2.03.532) registry cleaner, 31 uninstallers and 3 MUIs associated with KB917021 are detected and, if I delete them, I lose WPA authentication and have to reinstall the hotfix.

Q: Is there a convenient way I can continue to use the registry cleaner without having to "identify and uncheck" these 34 items each time?

Pls advise. Thank you.

Hello wdat,

Welcome to the forum.

Are you checking any of the ADVANCED options in Cleaner window?

I would uncheck these unless you really understand what they do.

You at least want to uncheck Hot Fix Uninstallers.

EDIT

Blame it on the late hour.Whatever,I failed to realize you were talking about the Registry cleaner.

Until someone can give you a more experienced answer ,you can right click on the type of entry and click on Deselect All of Type to uncheck them.

Sounds like you've run the cleaner with the advanced 'Hotfix Uninstallers' option checked before you ran the reg cleaner. I would suggest unticking that option and see if the problem still occurs (and if those issues are still picked up by the reg cleaner if you don't clean the hotfix uninstallers).

Thank you both for the quick responses. Unchecking "hotfix uninstaller" and "MUI cache" did the trick. Seems so simple in retrospect.

Hello again,

Thought I would include this link to a very similar situation.

Note what JDPower has to say about Hot Fix Uninstallers.

You may have already cleaned out the Uninstallers. That maybe why the Issues show up in Registry Cleaner.I FIXED my ISSUES with no problems.Remember it's a lot easier to back up registry changes and delete them later from My Documents than it is to fix the Registry.

I use ERUNT and NTREGOPT FROM the author on the net to backup and optimize the registry.
