CCleaner Professional 6.26.111.69 - won't start for local user

Since few weeks I have an issue with CCleaner Professional 6.26.111.69 on my Windows-10-PC (Windows 10 Pro, 22H2, Build 19045.4717, Language German): CCleaner is installed from local admin account for all users. CCleaner works fine in the admin account, after booting CCleaner is automatically in the task bar.

In the account of the local user, it is total different: After booting the CCleaner is not automatically in the task bar. A double click on the desktop icon of CCleaner has no effect. The only way to start CCleaner in the account of the local user is to start the program as an administrator (right click -> properties -> compatibility -> Checkbox "Run this program as an administrator". After that the CCleaner works fine in the local user account.

The solve the problem:

a) I have uninstalled and reinstalled CCleaner -> no solution


b) disable Avira and the Defender Firewall -> no solution


c) stop process-ID CCleaner in the taskmanager -> there is none, no solution


d) Check the permissions, CCleaner64.exe has full control in all checkboxes (system)


e) Try to locate CCleaner in <span>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options -&gt; there is not such a key</span>

I have the same issue on another machine running Windows 11 Pro. Any ideas what else can be done to fix that issue?

I think that we have seen this "not running" before in earlier versions.

It seemed to be an issue with the permissions that get set during the install.

Try the following:

Reinstall CCkeaner and when installing leave the 'Run CCleaner' box ticked in the last screen of the installer so that it will open from the installer.

That has cured the issue in the past.

PS. By Task Bar I am assuming that you actually mean the System Tray where the date/time is? A CClearer icon wiil appear there if you have Automatic Updating or Smart Cleaning enabled. (And possibly Performance Optimizer?)

It is obvious that the issue has something to do with permissions, because when I change the account from local user to local admin CCleaner is working on that (former local user) account properly, inclusive CCleaner icon in the system tray (thank you for correction).

I have attached five screenshots with the permissions of ccleaner64.exe in the local user account (hope the German text is understandable). Any ideas which permission is missing?

Sorry I don't know which permissions.

One other thing I would try is in CCleaner (on all user accounts) i would set:

Options>Advanced> Skip User Account Control warning


to see if that makes a difference.

Edit- you might also try adding all the users in Options>Users

That should let an admin user clean all the selected user accounts

I have uninstalled the CCleaner and reinstalled it several times in the admin account. In my theory the installation of the Trial-Version is the solution, because the trial does not allow CCleaner to manage all users. Once it is installed and running the entering of the license key a change to all users is uncritical.

But suddenly I have again the same issues and have noticed that CCleaner cannot stand a temporary change of the Windows-User-Account from Standard-User to Admin back.

Latest issue: Smart Cleaning is not cleaning cookies at all, but manually “Custom Clean” is doing it. But “Smart Cleaning” should do exactly what “Custom Clean” is performing. Maybe I start a separate thread for that. I am using CCleaner since 2012 but I am a little bit exhausted of a software which is paid and causing so much dysfunctional trouble.
