CCleaner Pro 5.15 update ran, then shut down

The CCleaner Pro 5.15 update didn't work on my Win7 Home Premium computer. CC would start, sit there for 4 or 5 seconds, then shut down. I tried uninstalling, re-downloading & installing, same results. I tried uninstalling, re-booting, reinstalling & rebooting, same results. I found the old version, reinstalled it, & it worked once, then it shut down the same way. After about 3 weeks, someone on another forum suggested I try the portable version. I used it, unzipped it, copied it to the folder, & it worked.

Since you have the pro, you have direct to developer priority support.

Also had you asked here, we too would have suggested loading the portable build over the old version

OK, this is a "workaround." I don't like workarounds . I like "fixed." Will this happen again with the next update?

Well, no one else has reported this, at least on the forum. However none of us are employed by Piriform, so if you want an answer if it will happen again, no one here knows. If you can recreate the bug, capture it and as many logs as you can, then you should contact development with your pro support.

As far as your issue, any number of factors in your pc that may cause this to occur, including your security software, your user account, your windows version.

As I said, I didn't have this upgrade problem, nor did others so its (opinion only) unlikely that the issue is in the installer or ccleaner program

I have a very similar problem - I have downloaded the free version of 5.15 several times and when I double click on the installer, or right click and "run as administrator" - nothing at all happens. I am running Vista 32.

I have tried installing a few other things like firefox, magical jellybean, AVG Toolbar - and they all worked absolutely fine. I installed Firefox before trying to install ccleaner and I have insralled AVG Toolbar and magical jellybean after (repeatedly) trying to install ccleaner.

There definitely seems to be a problem with the installer, I do not have an earlier version of ccleaner installed on this computer.

The installer file I downloaded was from the piriform / ccleaner website.

CCleaner has had many reports of the installer not working for months (maybe years by now), which is often thought of as being the Standard installer and security software (anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware, firewall) blocking the installation due to the Google software offers it has.

One solution is to wait for the Slim build (the installer without any Google software offers) to be released, it's usually about 1 week after the Standard installer was released. Or use the Portable ZIP build which is released at the same time as the Standard installer. I personally always use the Portable ZIP and have no blockage of using the program, no false positives, no problems whatsoever as it pertains to updating - albeit manually updating.

A small update (no pun intended) I have noticed that for my PC another installer won't start in exactly the same way ccleaner won't. Sound's like a line from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy but anyway - adobe flash, trying to install for firefox, the installer won't start. So maybe in my case it is a bit more than just a ccleaner issue. Irritating that some installers work and other won't and nothing has changed....
