I download the free CCleaner each month to run. But, this month after installing a screen comes up with notice of new features in Cleaner. I cannot close this screen out, and there is no other way to advance past this screen, so I cannot run CCleaner. Is this some bug in the program? OR is there some way around it?
That sounds like you have updated to CCleaner 7 and are stuck at the Welcome screen.
We’ve had lots of reports of this welcome screen issue and there’s a work round (it works for most):
Go into Windows Settings and set the display scale to 100%.
Run CCleaner 7 and get past the Welcome Screen.
Set your display scale back to what it was.
I anticipate that once you do get CCleaner 7 running you might then have another question to ask, so:
How to Roll Back from v7 to v6.39
Thanks. I’ll keep this in mind for future issues. I did get on a Chat with CCleaner Tech Support yesterday, and they had me enter ALT-F4, which closed that Welcome Window. I was then able to run that first CCleaner scan. I tried again this morning and so far it seems to gray out at first, but then go to the Scan Now screen. So, maybe getting past that first scan did the trick. If not, I’ll try your fix. But, from your reply it sounds like there may be more issues with CCleaner 7.0 than this. Do you recommend, for now, that I follow the link you provided to go back to the prior version until CCleaner gets it’s act together with Version 7.0?
If the standard ALT+F4 works to close the Welcome window then it’s much simpler than changing the Windows scaling and then changing it back, so thanks for sharing.
(I think it hasn’t been suggested previously because it’s usually used to close an active application completely, not just a window in a app).
Personally my opinion is yes you should stick with CCleaner v6.39.
As it currently stands I do not regard CCleaner7 as being fit-for-purpose.
(In fact some aspects of it I believe are downright dangerous for the non-advanced, (or just unwary), user - which is the market it is supposedly intended for).
