ccleaner not scanning or removing temp files / folders

Hi chaps, I'm a big fan of ccleaner and have used it countless times over the years with great success. However, I ran ccleaner on a friends PC the other day and the initial scan(analyze), which took a while to complete, returned 4,500MB of junk. I then clicked Run Cleaner and it took about 2 seconds and told me that it had removed 2.4MB of data ?????

Anyway the next scan i did only revealed a couple of MB's worth of data, unlike the previous 4.5GB. When I browse to the temp folders and search for .tmp, dmp, chk files there are tons of them.

PC is XP Home and I'm running the app as an administrator.

Any ideas?

Your not alone!

I have two ps'c, one running Vista and one running XP...

After a few days 'surfing' when I run on the vista machine, cc cleaner takes sveral minutes and shows all the temp internet files it has deleted, and shows it has removed several MB of stuff...

After a few days of 'surfing' on the XP machine, cc cleaner only seems to remove the cookies, not the temp internet files...it only takes 10 secs or so to complete (unless I havejunk in the deleted folder) and shows maybe 100kb removed.....

I am using the same version of cc cleaner on both machines and have today d/l the latest version on the xp machine, but it has the same effect.....it runs but does not show any temp internet files are being removed.......

Help !!!!!!!

Was your browser open while cleaning? Or any software that uses the temp files..?

No, no other apps open at all. Assuming CC cleans .dmp files I can tell you that there are still .dmp files present. Not to worry anyway as I found another utility to perform the cleanup. The PC in question is no longer in my possession.

Okay. What version of CCleaner were you using? You haven't mentioned that.

.dmp files.. Memory Dumps. Don't know what must have gone wrong.

Let me add ....

I'm running the latest version - 2.22.968 - and have been using CCLEANER for a long time. Well, about two months ago, it stopped deleting TEMP files in users\{name}\Appdata\Local\Temp. I have been deleting them manually.

Thought I'd add my 2 cents.
