I have used CCleaner for many, many, years. Probably close to when it was first released. I recently needed to clean-up my hard drive and decided to purchase it and install the software again. That was a mistake.
CCleaner has become almost like a virus on my PC. I have removed CCleaner from all startup lists and process. CCleaner should NOT start on bootup, or at any other time for that matter. It should only start when I click the icon to start the software.
Well, CCleaner will automatically start itself. Then, it automatically reinstalls itself in the registry to start at boot up. I also found out that there is no “quit” or “exit” option in the software. Not even in the system try icon. There is no way to shut down this software short of ending the task and processes running.
I will be cancelling my subscription. Although, I’ve read some horror stories about trying to cancel the subscription too, so we will see. I will also be uninstalling CCleaner software and using a different company for my cleaning needs.
I don’t know who’s idea it was to turn this software into a virus that worms itself into your PC and acts like a tape worm in the gut of an animal, but it was the wrong business decision.
I know this is the community forums. I hope that someone from Piriform “might” see this and read my reason for abandoning Piriform products. Maybe if more people uninstall this virus and start using a product from a company that respects their users and clients they might get the idea.
