CCleaner for Windows stopped to clean Chrome Browsing history and Downloading history

Hi jirpol:

The version history for the latest CCleaner v6.38.11537 (rel. 23-Jul-2025) states “In CCleaner v6.38 we fixed an issue where browsing history was not being cleaned for users with the latest Chromium-based browsers.” Have you been able to confirm that v6.38 is now cleaning the Browsing History and Download History correctly in your Chrome browser?

I agree with you that this was (or possibly still is) a CCleaner bug. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the CCleaner software devs ever bother to run QA tests with BETA versions of Chrome (i.e., Beta, Dev, or Canary channels) to ensure CCleaner will clean the next stable release of this browser correctly.

I stopped using CCleaner to clean my default Firefox browser in 2020 after users reported they were loosing all custom settings in NoScript and other Firefox 79 browser extensions if CCleaner was used to clear this browser’s Internet Cache, and the problem was traced back to changes Mozilla made to the way that extension data was stored in Firefox 79. User circcc tested CCleaner v5.67 (rel. 31-May-2020) in June 2020 with an early BETA release of Firefox 79 and tried to warn the CCleaner software devs that this would be a serious problem if CCleaner wasn’t fixed before the upcoming stable channel of Firefox v79 was released in July 2020 (see their topic Problem with Firefox 79 [fixed in v5.70]) but this particular bug wasn’t fixed until CCleaner v5.70 was released in August 2020.
