CCleaner for Windows stopped to clean Chrome Browsing history and Downloading history

Hi,

about few days ago, CCleaner for Windows (Pro, trial period) stopped to clean Chrome browser Browsing history and Downloading history.

I have newest version of CCleaner, Chrome browser. I still have Chrome history syncing off and background tasks after close off too.

Please how to fix it?

Regards,
Jiri Polacek

It may be something that Chrome has changed in the update.Browsers do change where they put their temporary files without telling anyone.

Which leaves everyone including CCleaner playing catch-up to work out what they have done.

If that is what has happened then it may be the next CCleaner update until it gets fixed.

Hi,

in next update there is no fix for this issue.

Is there a way to report a bug?

Regards,
Jiri Polacek

From other reports it does appear that there have been changes in latest Chrome update that have affected the cleaning of some things.

The CC dev’s will be aware, and as said will be catching up, but if you still want to make a report then you can raise a support ticket by using the form here: CCleaner Support Community

However you should note that support are slow to answer these days and it can take a week or more for a registered customer to get a reply.

You say you are using a trial - so will not be a fully registered user - in which case:

Further you should note that the automatic support queue works off email addresses.
If the email you use when sending the form is not showing as registered to a current valid licence then you may not be seen as someone who has (currently) paid for support.
As an apparent ‘non-payer request’ your request will be non-priority and it may be a very long time (month or more) before the system even shows your request to a support person.

Yes, I understand.

Hopefully, they know about it.

I am disappointed that cCleaner presents itself as such big and great company and they do not inform users of their software about such fundamental bugs (and that they know about it and they are working on it) and they do not care about bug reporting (their software is not working as expected, I spend time to try to inform them and they want money from me to report them a bug - whoah!).

Thanks for your answers, nukecad. You are great.

Same for me. Chrome is no longer cleaned.

You seem to missunderstanding something - This is not a bug.

A bug is when there is an error with your software, there is no error in CCleaner here so there is no bug.

All that has happened is that Chrome has made some changes - and so now CCleaner (and all other cleaners) need to be updated to account for what Chrome has changed.

PS. It isn’t just Chrome that does this; ALL browsers make such changes from time to time and then ALL junk cleaners have to catch up with what has been changed.

Yes, by strict terminology it is no bug, but factically is a bug.

You can call it how you want but when your software is dependent on another software and that another software changes in the way that affects your software, then your software can stop working and it is you responsibility to accomodate it with latest changes of dependant software.

It is like: My software is adding image of your family to Google homepage. It is not a bug that it is not adding any photo to Google homepage, because Google homepage was changed by Google. I will still sell my software without informing users that it is not working.

I don’t blame anybody. It is only good-will advice for CCleaner company (althought it will probably not reach them) to inform users when there is any problem (in changelog, news, community phorum…). Like: 28. May 2025 - We have lots of reports that CCleaner is not wiping Chrome history properly. It is caused by latest update of Chrome. We know about it and we are working on a fix which will be available in next update.

It is communication I expected from large companies, companies which are world/country-leading in some industry and have millions of users.

Also, when software has internet connection and can receive latest information (like discounts etc.) not only via updates, there can by this announcment on that function page.

You know, it is better to inform your customers that something is not working that waiting him/her to report it to you or let all your customer each to report it to you when you know about it.

Of course, I don’t know if I am one of a hundred or one of a million who are affected by this incompatibility, but if there is lots of users affected and company know about it, time and problems of lots of people can be spared if they know about it.

For example, if I don’t realize that Chrome history wiping is not working, I have now about 20 thousands history entries on Chrome and I figured out before that this can slow down Chrome.

Again, nukecad, thank for your reply.

The above text is for CCleaner company, not for you primarily. I believe their communication with customers/users can be improved. And this is my suggestion to improvement.

I pretend they are following community discussion (it is something which I expected but I don’t know it) and maybe they will read it and think about it.

Hi jirpol:

The version history for the latest CCleaner v6.38.11537 (rel. 23-Jul-2025) states “In CCleaner v6.38 we fixed an issue where browsing history was not being cleaned for users with the latest Chromium-based browsers.” Have you been able to confirm that v6.38 is now cleaning the Browsing History and Download History correctly in your Chrome browser?

I agree with you that this was (or possibly still is) a CCleaner bug. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the CCleaner software devs ever bother to run QA tests with BETA versions of Chrome (i.e., Beta, Dev, or Canary channels) to ensure CCleaner will clean the next stable release of this browser correctly.

I stopped using CCleaner to clean my default Firefox browser in 2020 after users reported they were loosing all custom settings in NoScript and other Firefox 79 browser extensions if CCleaner was used to clear this browser’s Internet Cache, and the problem was traced back to changes Mozilla made to the way that extension data was stored in Firefox 79. User circcc tested CCleaner v5.67 (rel. 31-May-2020) in June 2020 with an early BETA release of Firefox 79 and tried to warn the CCleaner software devs that this would be a serious problem if CCleaner wasn’t fixed before the upcoming stable channel of Firefox v79 was released in July 2020 (see their topic Problem with Firefox 79 [fixed in v5.70]) but this particular bug wasn’t fixed until CCleaner v5.70 was released in August 2020.
