So I just updated both my laptop and desktop from Windows 7 x64 to Windows 8.1 x64. I am a bit disappointed in the performance of CCleaner on both systems. I have all of the same settings as I previously did on my computer with Windows 7 installed, one of those being the x3 secure wipe. Now what used to take 1-2 takes 6-10mins. Both systems are SSDs, I did notice in performance monitor the disk usage spikes to almost a 100% (didnt gauge this in Windows 7 previously). Anyone else seeing this?
Oh goodness where to begin.
Most likely, this because you use x3 secure, any secure setting are absolutely useless on SSD, and windows 8 is probably better handling the SSD's dislike for this action better than 7 did. Also by using overwrite settings you are DRASTICALLY reducing the (already finite) lifespan of the drive per file cleaned on every clean. A SSD/Flashdrive/cellular-phone-memory is limited by the number of writes to it. a block shuts down when it can no longer take writes, shrinking the true capacity of the drive.
