Hello forum!
So, today i tried to run my CCleaner, to do some cleaning of my system, but it wouldn't start.
Neither CCleaner.exe nor CCleaner64 will start. Nothin happens when i try to open, not even in joblist/services et cetera.
Two days ago i tried some different GTA 5 cracks, and this might have been some viruses, which Avast didn't detect.
I've tried the following:
Uninstalling, reinstalling
Installing in safe mode
Opening in safe mode
Running portable version
Downloaded from a clean PC, and installed on current.
I've tried following programs for malware:
Malwarebytes
SuperAntiSpyware
SpywareBlaster
HitmanPro 3
Avast full scan
SFC /Scannow (some corrupted files couldn't be repaired though).
Auslogic registry cleaner
Many of the programs found malware, and they all got deleted. It was all cookies, mostly.
What can i do?
It might be a registry lock virus or something.
Hi jake,
I join this dicussion to find a solution , too.
My CCleaner stopped working 2 days ago when i saw a malware appearing.
I tried all the software you did try and the same for me, it founds some malwares
but didnt repair my CCleaner.I think its a registry issue too.
I've found on another topic that you must delete all entries in
regedit at : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/Image File Execution/Options
but i havent this folder on my laptop. So i'm in your situation right now. Hope you'll have this folder.
I'm waiting with you for an answer.
(Sorry for my bad english).
deleting without knowing what to delete will only add more problem to current problem
if you want to try the solution given by @Dumuual, search specifically for ccleaner.exe and ccleaner64.exe
delete both entries if exist > rename ccleaner.exe and ccleaner64.exe back to original > run as usual > report back here
the correct location would be
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options

Software cracks usually have malware associated with them and regardless of what you scanned with on your own there can still be malware leftover and if it was improperly removed it could damage your system.

The Windows NT folder is missing from my registry.
But renaming the CCleaner64.exe worked. But if i rename it back to original name, it doesn't work.
How come?

You stated you had malware on the computer that you had thought you cleaned. Only thing is CCleaner deletes temporary files from Temp folders where allot of malware resides, so it could be feasible that some malware won't let cleaning software run that would delete its files.
