Started having issues on an old computer with CCleaner, been a customer for 15yrs or so. Anyway, that computer was very old, treated myself to a new computer, bigger, better faster, latest version hardware, software & Windows 11 OS.
Installed download from CCleaner for Pro bundle, was only given one opportunity to put in license/registration. Both Speccy and Recuva keep wanting to install update, I go through the motions the screen shows linking and percentage of download, but the version never changes, so next boot up of computer, Speccy and Recuva want to update…etc. etc.
WHY does CCleaner when running “software updater” why doesn’t it update it’s own product?!?!?
In addition, both show on the “about” screen “registered to:” but no information shows up.
During the Pro bundle install, I was given the opportunity to enter license/registration only at after the CCleaner portion of the install, but not for Recuva or Speccy and cannot find any method to update them.
I am getting very frustrated with CCleaner, where it used to be a software I could count on, maybe new people, can’t keep up with the Jones’s, I don’t know but this is getting to be not worth frustration!!
Double click the downloaded files to install each one, then open and use your key to activate them.
TBH Recuva Free does everything that Recuva Pro can - except recovery from virtual drives.
Speccy Free does everything that Speccy Pro can.
In each case the difference is simply automatic updates - and they haven’t had any functional updates for years, which is why CCleaner updater doesn’t offer any; ypu can’t offer updates when there aren’t any.
You also get customer support with Pro which you hardly ever (ie. Never) use for those two products.
PS. You do know that if your new computer has an SSD (most do) then Revuva has very little chance of revovering anything from it? No recovery software has.
That’s becase of the way that SSD’s work which is different from spinning HDDs, SD cards, and thumbdrives/memory sticks.
Which means making regular backups is more important than ever - if you have a current backup of your data (or a full System Image backup) then you don’t even need a recovery app.
I’ve selected auto update, I should NOT have to download a free version to get an update that is a later version of what is on my PC. So, I don’t feel you are answering my question with a valid fix. I don’t want a workaround, I want a software that does what it’s supposed to do, maybe it’s a setting, I need to change, either in Speccy or Recuva or Windows. So, unless you are truly answering the need of my question, don’t offer a workaround as an answer, the problem will still exist when there is another updated version available.
Your reply, only creates more questions, why doesn’t auto update work? (newer versions were/are available than what came with my “Pro” purchase) If Speccy “free” does everything “Pro” does, why is it offered as part of the “Pro” bundle like it’s a valued item?.
your answers, were not true answers, they are workarounds! when a software has the capability to update “out of date software” which CCleaner does, why would it NOT update 2 software provided in the “Pro Bundle” associated with CCleaner? I do not want a workaround answer to manually download the “free” version, in my experience with software there are usually distinct differences between the “free” version and the “pro” version.
A true answer is NOT a workaround suggestion, as you both gave, it would be that I need to check a setting in either software that will not update or in my PC security or firewall settings and instructions on how to check/change them.
CCleaner needs to work like it’s supposed to, that’s what I paid for, when it can update drivers and other software versions but can’t update it’s own, there’s a problem.
This is a user forum, you’re getting “work arounds” instead of “fixes” because we aren’t the devs and they, as nuke pointed out, aren’t concerned with updating those applications
