How should I set CCleaner for registry cleaning. With 8.1 and 10 Microsoft Technicians tell me that the registry cleaner is deleting vital data. Is this true or is it a Microsoft issue? I never had any trouble with CCleaner with Windows 7 and I had all the boxes checked in the registry cleaner as I do now with my new computer that I recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
IMHO registry cleaning falls into the same category as duplicate file removal or defragging SSD's, there is no benefit and should not be part of a regular maintenance process.
only to be done when there is a legit reason and other avenues have been exhausted.
it can easily cause more problems than it solves but has gotten a it's safe to do status because any problems the process may create usually don't show up for ages.
and, yes, it may delete vital registry entries, although CC's reg cleaner is one of the better, gentler ones.
