The new version of CCleaner 7 just wiped out my CCleaner pro, I have tried to undo this but it wont let me
I have the same issue on my PC and Laptop. Tryed to activate with my key again but it doesnt work.
Are you both reporting that updating to CCleaner v7 has not carried an existing Pro licence across, and that it will not let you enter your existing key?
Are you getting any error message, eg. Is it saying that the key is invalid or that it has expired?
(Presumably these were keys that had been purchased directly from CCleaner).
Yes the 7 version did not carry the pro license key across, it wiped it out and there was no way to enter the pro key anywhere on that version.
I had to go find a download of version 6 and reload the program after erasing it, I then loaded the pro key and I’m back to normal.
I would in my opinion remove that version 7 off the web until you get it right.
I don’t work for CCleaner, so I can’t do any of that.
However:
I haven’t yet updated my CCleaner Pro to v7 to see if my key carries across, but I have updated the CCleaner Free on another laptop to v7 - so I can help with where you enter the licence key in v7:
which gives:
I have a 3 year license key that i bought 3 month ago. after trying to put it in and update my “free v7 ccleaner” it gives me the message “put in a valid key”
Can I ask how you each did the update, was it:
- CCleaner updated itself automatically.
- CCleaner told me there was an update and I accepted it.
- I used ‘Check for Updates’ and did it that way.
- I downloaded and installed v7 myself over the top of v6.
- I uninstalled v6 then installed v7.
I’m trying to work out if doing the update in different ways gives different results.
It was the second option in your post.
Now this morning I found that version 7 wanted to install it’s self again, I looked in the CCleaner folder and found an auto update program for version 7, I deleted it and the folder, here is a screen shot of the recycle bin.
CCleaner 7 auto installed this evening, 10/08/2025 and wiped out my CCleaner pro.
This evening, 10/08/2025, CCleaner 7 auto installed and wiped out my CCleaner Pro. Is the 7 version replacing the Pro version?
CCleaner 7 is now the ‘Official’ version, it is replacing CCleaner v6, if your v6 was Pro then your v7 should still be Pro.
I have no idea why it would try to do that, other than there being a programming bug of some kind.
As usual we haven’t been told about the release, or about how the update should work in different scenarios.
I do know that CCleaner 7 creates it’s own programme folder at
“C:\Program Files\Piriform\CCleaner 7”
and the install appears to remove the “C:\Program Files\CCleaner” folder that v6 uses.
If you are having problems activating CCleaner as Pro then see: How to Roll Back from v7 to v6.39
It did it again, but now you say that the 7 version is now official, so if I allow it to update to & it should carry over my pro keys? And have full functions? The version 7 that dumped my 6 version didn’t have the registry editor, that’s the main program that I use to clean up all my other PC’s, I have 12 other PC’s that 7 tried to up date, if you think the new version is bug free I will allow it to up date. (I will test one PC first)
The Registry Cleaner is still there but is has changed, and how you use it has changed.
It is now a part of Custom Clean.
PS. You are aware that it is not recommended to use any registry cleaner unless you have a specific registry issue, or are cleaning up an applications entries after uninstalling it.
Using a registry cleaner will not speed up your machine in any way and will only save a few KB of drive space.
Using a registry cleaner unecessarily can cause problems with what was a healthu machine, even to the point of ‘bricking’ that machine.
