CCleaner 7 will not install on an ASUS E410 because pop-up won't work with the 768 x 1366 video size - I just lost my license for that machine

UPDATE: I tried uninstalling and re-installing. Same problem. This machine will never be able to run any version of CCleaner Professional until this bug is fixed. In other words, my 3-machine license is now a 2-machine license. Stupid me, I should have refused the automatic upgrade sigh

[And no, I don’t have a full backup. Do you back your computer up completely every time you install a software upgrade? I don’t.]

==========================

I have a 3-machine license for CCleaner professional, renewed 29 July of this year (2025). I initiated it on a fully updated Windows 11 24H2 Asus E410.

Previously, that machine had been running CCleaner6, however upon initiating the usual scan, it was upgraded to CCleaner7. I foolishly permitted the upgrade. This machine will never run ANY version of CCleaner until this bug is fixed. So my 3-machine license is now a 2-machine license. Stupid me.

The window that opens when the upgrade to CCleaner7 is inappropriately sized for my ASUS E410 graphics card. Unfortunately I can’t post an image here, so my issue can be more obvious. I also have another ASUS E410 under the aforementioned 3-machine license. I tried connecting it via HDMI to a larger monitor as well as using control-minus-sign to resize the screen. Nothing worked. The installation window presumably has a place for me to click, but it’s unavailable no matter how much I try to scroll or resize the pop-up. THIS IS A BUG, NOT A FEATURE.

Thanks in advance.

P.S.: My email is {Removed by Mod} if you have any ideas please let me know. I have done nothing wrong, and I think I deserve a smidgen more support as a loyal customer.

I just got the following email from CCleaner. Since I have two Asus E410s, my three-machine license for CCleaner Professional has now become a one-machine license. I also tried to email support with a screen shot. I received a reply indicating that the support email is not monitored. Here’s the boiler plate email that I just received from CCleaner (which was NOT a response to my bug report, it’s generic) …

CCleaner 7 is here and it’s better than ever
Your favorite cleaner has been given a refresh, and is now sleeker, faster, and more powerful than ever. Your CCleaner should update automatically, so you can explore the new version straight away.

So that’s the place where I got stuck. It turns out that the solution was to use the tab key. (Nothing else worked - changing the text size, plugging into a 27” monitor, changing the screen resolution … all these options failed. I had to use TAB.)

It appears that HTML is somehow being adapted by J-servlets or something of that nature. However upon getting both machines updated, I found the UI to be completely inappropriate for my 1366 x 768 maximum screen resolution on an ASUS E410.

It’s good to know that I haven’t lost two licenses. Unfortunately when I try to update drivers, I get a button that says that I have to pay for YET ANOTHER CCleaner license in order to do so. How many licenses do I need to purchase for the same computer?

The one thing I can say for CCleaner is that I had a chance (for once!!) to enter my email address, and provide feedback. Perhaps I’ll have the opportunity to interact with a human being, and send screen shots, and explanations etc. for a complete bug report.

Because a new user can’t upload two images in the same post, I’ll have to reply to myself. Please bear with me and read the reply.

To continue the discussion, I’m posting a screen capture of what happened to me when I tried to do driver updates. Please note the lower right: “upgrade to resolve.” How many CCleaner Professional licenses should I purchase for the SAME machine? It’s nice that I can get my software updated. What about drivers?? As noted earlier, there is no place to enter my 3-machine license key, obtained on 29 July 2025.

Please screenshot the settings My Subscription, with the key blacked out if it’s there.

Thanks for your reply. It was very helpful because your screen shot gave me an opportunity to see what other users with larger screen resolutions actually see.

(Thus far, my desktop version hasn’t been updated, but I anticipate no problems because my graphics card supports 1920 x 1080 - which is what I normally use at my desk. The ASUS E410s are for use when I’m on the road.)

Your screen shot helped me, because I realized that what I had to do was to click on the top icon on the left menu, and then move my mouse cursor to the left. That will bring the text-based descriptions of the menu options to the forefront. Then (and only then) I can use my [shift-]tab key to navigate between them. That’s the only way that I can get to the last few options. (The arrow keys don’t work.)

This permitted me to get to “settings” and from there to “My Subscriptions,” where I could enter my license key. (I had previously tried uninstalling and reinstalling, so the license key was no longer there.)

BTW I have nothing on the top of my screen.

BOTTOM LINE: v.7 is CLUELESS about the screen resolution size on my ASUS E410s. Unlike a web page, nothing I do can improve matters. (For ex., there’s nothing in the ‘Settings’ page that will help. Using Control-plus_sign or Control_minus_sign won’t work either.)

The attached screen shot should give you an idea of how bad the screen resolution problem actually is. What I did was to try to check for duplicate files. In the middle, you’ll see a list of duplicate files with the scroll bar to the right. (It looks like a standard HTML SELECT tag list.) Notice that the the box is basically unusable.

My guess is that the UI coders were oblivious to the fact that different users have different screen resolutions, and that many laptops/notebooks don’t have graphics cards that allow higher resolutions.

I never had this problem with v.6 and I wish I could go back to v.6, because all I really wanted was to have software and driver updates managed for me. I’m also really annoyed that the support email is unmonitored and that I have no opportunity to interact with a staff member, despite the fact that I’ve paid for a 3-machine license. I do occasionally get canned emails asking for my feedback, but I’m probably wasting my time replying to them, because I suspect my responses go directly into the proverbial “bit bucket.”

I suspect many other users are encountering these issues. I don’t have a crystal ball, but it’s not improbable that at least some of these users will refuse to renew their licenses unless CCleaner recognizes that the new v.7 UI needs overhauling to deal with these issues.

In the meantime, I suggest that users (at least those of us with license keys) not be forced to upgrade to the new buggy v.7 UI.

Here’s my final post in this thread. I decided to “byte the bit” and uninstall CCleaner Professional v.6 on my desktop. (If anyone cares: it’s a fully updated - including drivers - Win11Pro 24H2, screen resolution: 1980x1020 quad N97, 27" monitor). So now I’m working with v7. It was easy enough for me to enter my license key, based on what I’ve learned from messing around with my Asus E410s.

Minor point: I still don’t have the same stuff at the top of my screen as was shown in user Nergal’s screen shot. Maybe my 27” monitor isn’t big enough? Or perhaps 1980 x 1020 isn’t sufficiently large? If the answer to either question is in the affirmative, that bolsters my case that v.7 has a serious issue with screen resolution.

I submitted this thread to the Ideas Portal which I think is a nifty feature. (The only one so far that I’ve noticed.) Although I’m not sure why it’s better than a message board. Plus the cynic-in-me has to wonder whether anyone in a position of importance pays any attention. My two sugg.s were: (1) FIX the screen resolution issue; and (2) do not FORCE paying users to upgrade to v.7, since none of us are babies and we know the risks.

Thanks again to user Nergal for helping me initially clear this logjam.
