10june2025 ccleaner free v 6.36.11508 64bit freezes after its finished doing a clean this has happened a few time in last week or 2 ..why ? I have to restart my win11 laptop because the ccleaner window covers most of my desktop icons so I cant click any of them, the ccleaner window goes a duller colour than usual but can not be closed
Is this about 5 seconds after doing a Custom Clean?
There is a current bug (its been happening for a month or more) where the CCleaner Free window will go grey for a second or two after a Custom Clean.
It is there for longer on some machines than others, but only for a second at most - nobody else has reported it freezing altogether.
When it freezes on you then how long are you giving it before restarting?
Rather than doing a full restart:
Can you not use the ‘X’ at the top-right of the CCleaner Window to close it?
If not, then in task manager can you right-click CCleaner and ‘end-task’.
i can not click the X at top right to close the screen when it goes wrong, it has happened tp me about 4 or 5 times in last week or so , it doesnt happen every time but as you can imagine it is extremely annoying as i have to restart my laptop or i cant do much. i always give it at least a minute or 2 before i realise its not trying to say pump out some annoying advert for some other ccleaner service
support on facebook or x told me to unistall it and reinstall so i did hoping i would get a slightly newer version when i reinstalled it but sadly i had the latest versrion so i have reinstalled the same flawed software, if it happens again i will try take a screenshot
i have tried task manager and that does not close it, also on other days when i have used ccleaner i want to fully close it to save on memory etc , but again windows11 will not let me end the task in task manager, ive also tried to kill ccleaner in process lasso software i use but again ccleaner or windows will not let us end ccleaner..why is that ?? i do not want it running all the time when i am not using it
If you are using any of these they will keep CCleaner running in the background:
- Options>Smart Cleaning.*
- Options>Updates>Keep CCleaner updated automatically.*
- Performance Optimiser - (If you have put anything to sleep).
*Those first 2 will also prompt Windows to put a CCleaner icon in the System Tray.
However Task Manager should be able to end the first 2 when told to, and PO does not normally show in Task Manager.
What does Task manager say, if anything, when it won’t let you End Task on CCleaner?
As you are the only one reporting this ‘freezing’ behaviour then can we ask:
You say that you have Windows 11, is that 24H2?
What Make/model is your computer?
Are you running any AntiVirus other than the built in Windows Security?
you can also just untick automatic updates and that should work.it did for me.also untick everything in privacy if you havent already
Hi Golfballs:
See redwolfe_98’s image of their “greyed-out” CCleaner interface in their 02-Jun-2025 post in yomama’s CCleaner ver 6.34.11482 freezes computer for 10-15 seconds after cleaning finishes. As nukecad stated, this freeze of the CCleaner interface only occurs after a Custom Clean with CCleaner Free, and for most user (including myself) it only lasts for a few seconds and does not display the 503 error message (i.e., temporary server disconnection) observed by redwolfe_98.
To date all evidence suggests that this glitch happens when CCleaner Free attempts, and fails, to display (upload) a large marketing ad nagging the user to upgrade to CCleaner Professional (see image below) that covers the entire CCleaner interface . My 02-May-2025 post in web1’s Too many popups of ccleaner has further details.
Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.5965 * Firefox v139.0.4 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.25050.5-1.1.25050.6 * Malwarebytes Premium v5.3.2.195-134.1.5283 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * CCleaner Free Portable 6.36.11508 * HDCleaner Portable 64-Bit v2.091
it sounds like the problem is that the ccleaner window is too large to fit on your screen and therefore you are not able to click the “x” to close the ccleaner window. to resolve that you need to reduce the size of the ccleaner window. or, reduce your display’s scaling, so that the ccleaner window will be smaller: you might have your computer’s display’s “scaling” set to more than the recommended 100%, causing ccleaner’s window to be too large.
the problem still exists as of 425pm uk time 8 july 2025, task manager will not close ccleaner when it freezes like this nor will process lasso a bit of software i use
how do i upload jpegs here ? it isnt letting me, got told to drag images to here i did that and it still wont let me share them it says An error occurred: Sorry, you can’t embed media items in a post.
even though i can see a preview of the jpeg along side my post
no i can see where the x should be its simply that the cleamer window covers a large part of my desktop so all desktop icons behind the cleaner window i cant see/click on
