CCleaner 6.24.11060 Portable - Registry tab hasn't moved

With the installer version, the 'Registry' tab has been moved into tools or options (can't remember which). In the portable version, the tab is still there.

I just launched v6.24 Portable and it's been moved to Tools in the one that I have. (Software Updater has replaced it on the sidebar).

There again at this moment in time, with all that is going on, I could not be confident of saying that my v6.24.11060 is the same as your v6.24.11060 (portable or installed versions).

? It is, and it isn't at the same time! This is like Schrödinger's cat, when you look at it is when you actually find out!

Basically, things change a few milliseconds after the program is started (for the first time?), the binaries themselves are the same, the one in the portable release is bit-by-bit identical to the one in the installer. If I were to guess, I'd say with "Patches", "MicroUpdates" and those other Cfg-named parameters can be used to tweak things per installation ID:

One thing I just noticed when running the portable version of CCleaner is that 3rd party analytics are opt-out, not opt-in (there is "thirdPartyAnalyticsEnabled=1" under the GDPR section in "Data\usercfg.ini"). Perhaps it doesn't apply, but as far as I know to be compliant with that regulation it ought to be opt-in, no related dialog was shown on first start.

Well, I disabled my outgoing firewall rule and, even with update unchecked, it updated itself. I now have the software updater instead of the registry and the registry has been moved into tools.

Too late to edit my last post so I wanted to provide this information:

When I allowed ccleaner64.exe to connect to the internet, a large amount of string values was added to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Piriform\CCleaner

One of those string values switched the registry editor and software updater. I didn't note which string value it was.

However, since I KNOW how to remove software updater and not registery editor, I blocked ccleaner64.exe with an oubound firewall rule. Then, I deleted the Piriform key. When reopening ccleaner64.exe, it reversed registry and software updater. I was then able to add back (Cfg)SoftwareUpdater with 0 value and software updater is now gone again.

Forget this, for now on, I'm just using winapp2.ini and winapptool to update ccleaner and that's it.

Thanks for that, it confirms something that I suspected on the issue of Custom Clean being paywalled, which you may have noticed the posts about.
