CC-Cleaner PUP ? Dangerous confusion !

What a friggin mess !!!

http://www.ccleaner.online/

Thought I was buying the Piriform version !!!. Installed it on all my PC's !!!

Doing a whois domain search for support-geeks.com points to a registration somewhere in India.

Registrant Name: Chandan Garg

Registrant Organization: pcvark software

Registrant Street: 4 ba 4, Jawahar Nagar

Registrant City: jaipur

Registrant State/Province: Rajasthan

Registrant Postal Code: 302004

Registrant Country: IN

What is the relationship between the software and the actual trojan ?

{link removed due to pop-up virus and malware alerts on mine and other members PC's}

Thanks for any help.

Ccleaner.online is not a reputable place for getting ccleaner. It is not related to piriform, and very well might be malware. Ccleaner should only be gotten from here at piriform.com/ccleaner or an authorized distributor (file hippo is the only one I know of for that). You should immediately go to a TRUSTED antimalware site and get checked thoroughly. Please see rule 10 for trusted sites

After a bit of investigation, looks like they've re-branded their ADVANCED PC CARE product !!

They now call it CC-Cleaner available through www.ccleaner.online.

This looks like lawsuit material.

It's interesting to note that the URL is "http://www. ccleaner.online/", but on the website it reads "CC Cleaner" - i.e. note the three Cs.

an obvious attempt to catch out the unwary - which I'm sure it will do and has done.

these sort of losers rely on the fact that we all have moments of carelessness and it simply takes one click to wreck your day!

hopefully Piriform will issue a take-down notice.

I agree mta - hopefully Piriform will pursue this.

Piriform are aware.

The second link in post 1 pops a warning from Avast here on XP.

Link gone now. :)
