can't install CCleaner

Recent update to Win 10 deleted and will not allow reinstallation of CCleaner! Any suggestions?

You can download and try installing the SLIM build from this page (bottom item in list)

What anti virus are you using?

Do you mean the 1909 Windows 10 update?

Yes, it was 1909.....knocked out several programs on me! I did install the slim version and it worked. THANKS!

I'd also suspect your anti-virus if you are having issues with other programmes as well.

For example you can see on various forums that the latest Kaspersky update is causing quite a few problems.

No, it's happened before with updates and my Bit Defender was not the problem. It seems to happen wih older programs like Jasc Paint and the older CCleaner. Thanks for the input!

Ahh, Windows 10 feature updates, the ones that change the version number ie.to 1909, will (annoyingly) remove old programmes that it thinks are 'Incompatible' with the new version, and doesn't warn you when it's doing it.

This is supposedly to safeguard you and avoid the 'old' programme crashing Windows.

It doesn't remove them completely and it is possible for a while to get them back, but it's usually better just to reinstall the latest up to date version of the removed programme, if there is one.

Alternatively you could roll-back the Windows version, but you only have 10 days to do that following the update.

Go to Settings>Update & Security>Recovery>'Go back to the previous version of Windows 10'.

I still suspect that it was your AV and not Windows that would not let you install a new version of CCleaner, some AV's do not like the Standard installer because it contains 'offers', the Slim installer does not contain these 'offers' and so the AVs let it install.

I’ve experienced the same problem with CCleaner on two separate PCs, one of which took the 1909 update and the other the simpler updates to 1903, so that one hadn’t even got to 1909 yet! It’s hugely disconcerting, but now I’ve found this Forum and have renewed hope! ? Thanks to all for descriptions and of course, what appears to be a fix.

Fabulous! The advice re the Slim Build worked just fine. Many thanks to all here for descriptions and killer advice!
