Hello there, recently i ran into problem with one of my drives. It said " Location is not available" " E:\ is not accessible", like the below screenshot (though the screenshot is not mine). So, I formatted the disk (full format, not quick format) and ran a deep scan with recuva. The scan returned these (second screenshot), as you can see, the $BadClus is taking up almost the entire size of the disk, so can anyone help me how to recover the data (also note that there is no overwritten clusters detected i.e. the files are supposed to be unharmed, correct me if i am wrong). TIA.
There's no overwritten data because the files are all undeleted. They are system files which were created during the format and don't contain any data. $BadClus is a sparse file, which means that it's allocation extends to the full size of the drive but in reality it most likely doesn't occupy any space at all. A full format overwrites all cluster with zeroes. I would say that there's not a chance in a zillion that any data can be recovered from this drive.
Companies like DriveSavers, etc., and I'm sure there's more can often recover data from very badly damaged drives, if one is willing to pay the price for professional recovery.
