I use QuickTime Alternative. I gave up on QuickTime.
I wish I could do the same.
The most recent versions of iTunes won't accept QTA, although previous ones did. And you need uptodate versions of iTunes for the latest incarnations of iPod Nano's.
And to further rub salt into the wound, if you have iTunes, you cannot simply choose to update Quicktime to cover stuff in Kens post.
I downloaded Quicktime seperately instead of updating through the program, because the update method takes you automatically to a combined iTunes-Quicktime install.
I thought I'd tricked it until the Quicktime install began, and then it stops and tells me I HAVE TO update iTunes at the same time. I've only just got rid of all the useless extras and running services, and I've no intention of doing that again.
For heavens sake, doesn't Apple realise how much people hate their software, and would move heaven and earth to use something else.
A media player/organiser doesn't have to have an 85mb install, that also requires a 74mb install Of Quicktime.
Trouble is my daughter turns white at the mere suggestion of using alternative software for her iPod.
How do you launch QuickTime Alternative -- is there is GUI somewhere (I can't find it)? Guess I assumed there would be a Desktop shortcut or something to access it. Or does the program just passively call on itself when it's needed?

That's the sole reason I didn't buy an iPod just a couple of years ago, even though the money was burning a hole in my pocket. And to this day it's still the reason I won' t be getting an iPod. Sadly Microsoft's Zune also uses crappy software in my opinion so I won't be getting one of those either.

I can't even find it there -- how is it listed? Do you think something went wrong with my install?
It's a while since I had that Tom, but maybe you inadvertently installed it without a "Start Menu" entry. It will be in the Programs Files folder.
As Corona says, I don't think it's something you can launch like Quick Time Player. It's purpose is to enable you to play QT content in other applications and on line.
That's the way I remember it, if I remember rightly.

I think you may have unclicked "add a Start Menu" entry as well. It's always come up on my pooter.
Now that I think of it, is there any reason I even need QuickTime or QuickTime Alternative if I'm not dealing with QuickTime movie files?
