Apparent bug report Ccleaner for Windows

I noticed that with the Ccleaner Free version 6.36.11508 at the end of each cleaning it systematically suggests me at least once (if even twice) to switch to the Professional version, preventing or slowing down the closing of the program itself.

Well that’s marketing not a bug.

Some users do seem to get more than others though,

The best we can work out is that the difference may be:

  • What you or you AV is blocking access to in your firewalls.
  • If another cleaner is being used as well as CCleaner.

When you are shown such marketing a flag is set to say that you have seen it and not to show it again for XXX days.

If your firewalls block the server from reading that flag, or if another cleaner has deleted that flag as being junk, then the server can’t tell that you have already seen the marketing recently and so will show it again.

So how could I solve it by avoiding that Ccleaner started every time several times a day always has to ask me to switch to the professional version at the end of each cleaning even if it is enough to simply close the window is annoying anyway as well as a useless waste of time.
I do not use other cleaning programs
And I recently installed Bitdefender Antivirus Free for Windows

If the CCleaner behaviour has changed since you installed Bitdefender than that would tend to suggest that Bitdefender may be blocking the required connections.

Try checking if Bitdefender firewall is blocking any CCleaner or Avast connections and allow CCleaner and Avast connections through in both directions.

Hi ccleanerbug:

See my 29-Jan-2025 post # 245 in anon’s CCleaner v6 in the Wilders Security Forum. ***

There have been many recent discussions in this forum about the increasing number of intrusive marketing ads bombarding CCleaner Free users, like web1’s 05-Apr-2025 Too many popups of ccleaner. If the number of pop-up ads you see is becoming intolerable and Avast / Piriform continues to ignore user complaints I’d suggest you consider moving to another third-party disk cleaner (or just use the built-in cleanup tools that come with your Windows OS and browser) instead of decreasing your system security by unblocking CCleaner-related excutables and/or IP addresses in your firewall.

*** NOTE: I still have a copy of CCleaner Free Portable v6.x on a removable USB stick but these days it’s only used for comparative testing (e.g., if I want to compare the effectiveness of CCleaner vs another disk cleaning tool).

According to the feature list at https://www.bitdefender.com/en-us/consumer/free-antivirus your Bitdefender Antivirus Free does not include Bitdefender Firewall. I use the Windows Firewall built in to my Windows 10 OS and AFAIK that firewall does not block any CCleaner-related excutables and/or IP addresses by default.

Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.5854 * Firefox v139.0.4 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.25040.2-1.1.25040.1 * Malwarebytes Premium v5.3.2.195-134.1.5283 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * CCleaner Free Portable 6.36.11508 * HDCleaner Portable 64-Bit v2.091

Exactly Bitdefender Antivirus Free for Windows does not include a firewall, and I use the one already integrated with Windows 10, so maybe it’s just a coincidence, but these windows started appearing suddenly a few days ago, despite the fact that the update of Ccleaner Free dates back to several days before and therefore not even in conjunction with a possible recent update of the latest version of Ccleaner Free released and installed, so moreover I really don’t understand why so suddenly.
