Animated GIF question

- Can anyone recommend a program that is able to play an animated GIF file outside a webbrowser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) ?

- From time to time there're some VERY nice animated GIFs pictures. I tried IRFAN but there the GIFs sometimes are played (way) too fast.

Not sure exactly what you mean Willy.

If I go here

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=animated+gifs&client=opera&hs=Elk&tbm=isch&imgil=dGVBA8Gn4l4XnM%253A%253BCZZPPMCzbYPqmM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.laughinggif.com%25252Fgifs%25252Fe320xqkpqn&source=iu&pf=m&fir=dGVBA8Gn4l4XnM%253A%252CCZZPPMCzbYPqmM%252C_&usg=__L5ZLi9KEhwCG0q5G1jvPYJeXbfI%3D&biw=1280&bih=617&dpr=1.25&ved=0ahUKEwjM9uHBg6TWAhVmAcAKHWQXB3YQyjcIjQE&ei=yB66WczyJOaCgAbkrpywBw#imgrc=dGVBA8Gn4l4XnM:

and download the walking eye to my Downloads folder, I can then move it to my Pictures where it will play without being online.

i have ashampoo photo commander

Hazelnuts post below leads to an exe file that works here on win xp.

Author says it works on win 7, I haven't tried that

I did scan it w/ Avast, seems OK.

- I'll need to provide more info.

- In Win XP the standard photo/picture viewer was able to "play" animated GIFs. It recognized that a picture was an animated GIF file and was able to show the animation.

- But the picture/photo viewer that came with Win 7 doesn't "play" the animation anymore.

- I tried IRFAN but the program had its own ideas what the proper "play" speed should be for the frames inside the GIF picture. Sometimes it was (way) too fast compared to the standard build-in photo/picture viewer (in XP) or in the browser (e.g. Internet Explorer of Firefox).

Tried to put the exe file down in program files and associate GIFs to it, didn't work.

Anyway, Virustotal shows that 8 engines detect it as malware.

I think its a false positive, but . . . should have checked that first.

Doesn't really worry me a bit but if I wasn't "shadowed" it would.

Still searching my VAST ARCHIVES of obsolete or useless software for a viable candidate. :P

edit: Nothing here that you couldn't find and experiment with for yourself. :(

Have your gif ready.

Open Windows Media Player and then select open in the menu. When you browse for the.gif file make sure you select 'all files'' in the little dropdown box at the bottom.

Plays them for me :)

- After a lot of GOOGLEing (GOOGLing ???) I found this program on the MAJORGEEKS website that plays these animated GIF pictures (surprisingly !!!) well. After installing of the program can select a *.gif file. The *.gif file will be automatically opened with this program. The program is a viewer for *.gif files only. It will skip all other files that are in the same folder.
