A New System

Hi all I have a Dell system that is 5 years old. Seems to be running fine. It's a OptiPlex GX 240.

Haven't done anything to it since we got it, 5 years ago.

Don't want to buy a new PC.

Can someone help me with that I need to do to tweek it up or upgrade it?

Marc

post all your specs first mpossoff. like how much ram, processor speed, etc.

try this to get your specs:

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

download the program and run it, it will give you your specs.

i like firefox with firetune for one thing.

i also use:

pagedefrag

diskeeper defragmenter

ntregrotp

ccleaner

regcompact.net

tuneuputilities2006

these all keep things pretty smooth for me.

for firefox extensions i keep it simple:

adblock filterset. G updater

adblock plus

all in one sidebar

colorful tabs

cute menus

download status bar

gmail manager

ie tab

play all

quick java

tab mix plus

this page offers some tweaks to firefox to clean it up a bit:

http://www.lifehacker.com/software/firefox...eaks-209941.php

as well, here is a site with a few more tweaks:

http://www.tweakguides.com/

and this site has some great windows tweaks:

http://www.tweakxp.com/performance_tweaks.aspx

i hope that helps.

an inexpensive way to get more performance is to add some ram.

:)

Thanks 1984...Here's my Belarc specs....

Have it saved on my desk top but can't attach it.

See if this works...

Marc

nope. :(

just post the specs, or you could upload a screen shot to imageshack.

the other thing that you can do is make sure its clean of all spyware, virus, and other nasty infections that are out there.

this forum has a great guide found here:

http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=6329

i'm a bit overkill, but i also run:

spybot

adaware personal

a-squared free

spyware blaster

avg anti spyware

ca anti virus

comodo firewall

keeps me clean as a whistle. :)

imageshack is found here:

this is how to take a screen shot:
