For me CCleaner 6.39 still not clean Chrome, only Cookies are properly cleaned.
Hi TheOwner:
You stated in your 31-Jul-2025 post <above> that you have created a directory junction (soft link) to map your Google user data (normally located at C:\Users<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data) to a non-standard location on your D: drive at D:\Chrome\User Data.
APMichael has already identified the reason why CCleaner is not cleaning your Chrome user data in their 01-Aug-2025 post in airium’s CCleaner Fails to Recognize Program Paths Using Junctions, which states:
“Unfortunately, CCleaner has been ignoring Symbolic Links and Junctions since the end of 2023. Previously, these were followed and the redirected directories were cleaned up correctly. As usual, official support has never commented on this …”
I don’t use a Chrome browser, but AFAIK the problem being discussed in this topic was fixed in CCleaner v6.38 (see the 23-Jul-2025 v6.38.11537 release notes) for the majority of users who install their Chrome browser and user data in the default locations. Since your Chrome installation is not typical I suggest you file a bug report <here> and/or start a new topic in the CCleaner Windows Bug Reporting board so you don’t take this 30-May-2025 topic by Philip13 off-topic, and hopefully your specific problem with directory junctions will be noticed by @Laurence_CCleaner or some other Avast/Piriform employee.
Be sure to mention:
- Why you must use a directory junction for your Chrome user data (e.g., perhaps because your C: drive is full, etc.). For example, the OP airium noted in their 01-Aug-2025 CCleaner Fails to Recognize Program Paths Using Junctions that their Scoop package manager uses junctions to “manage newer versions of applications while keeping a consistent installation path”.
- If your Chrome user data is cleaned correctly if you configure Chrome to clean your browsing history on exit.

Hi jack121
From the CCleaner v6.38.11537 release notes posted on 23-Jul-2025 at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/version-history :
“In CCleaner v6.38 we fixed an issue where browsing history was not being cleaned for users with the latest Chromium-based browsers.”

Philip13, the original poster of this topic, has already confirmed that this bug was fixed over a month ago by CCleaner v6.38 (see their 23-Jul-2025 post <above>) so it might be a good idea for someone to mark this topic as solved and lock it to prevent further discussion.
