6.40.11558 is a maintenance update for older Windows versions

hazelnut: This was a new install on my wife’s PC and I tried the update as soon as I got done and got this problem. If I had waited as you said, the automatic update would have done its job and I would not ran into this problem. Greatly appreciate your help.

I checked the official CCleaner builds download page and can confirm that the download button for the Standard installer for Win 7 (“sunset” release) is now offering ccsetup640_win7.exe (rel. 16-Apr-2026), but the download button for the Portable build is still offering ccsetup639.zip.
Do you know if Piriform/Avast intends to release an updated ccsetup640.zip for the Portable build?

Portable didn’t need the version update, because all that changed was whether the updater errored out on update, it now, if I understand correctly, will update to 7 or tell you you’re stuck with this version (for win7 users), which is something portable doesn’t need. Though I agree it is a bit fragmented without portable bumping version too
