Received the following email today: Have left the link wording as was, for info, but it`s safe, and now links only to the forum.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Some customers have been receiving an email claiming to be from Barclays advising them to follow a link to what appear to be a Barclays web site, where they are prompted to enter their personal Online Banking details. Barclays is in no way involved with this email and the web site does not belong to us. Barclays is proud to announce about their new updated secure system. We updated our new SSL servers to give our customers a better, fast and secure online banking service.

Due to the recent update of the servers, you are requested to please update your account info at the following link.

Security Advisor

Barclays Bank PLC.

1: I don`t have an account with Barclays.

2: Grammatically, it doesn`t read correctly, supposedly coming from a bank.

This has to be something unpleasant.

I get Japanese ones all the time. The subject has Japanese characters, but sometimes they will have a few English words. 2 months ago, I would have at least 3 of them in my Gmail Spam folder, but here lately I haven't been getting them.

It says

some customers have been receiving an email claiming to be from Barclays advising them to follow a link to what appear to be a Barclays web site, where they are prompted to enter their personal Online Banking details. Barclays is in no way involved with this email and the web site does not belong to us.

Yet it does exactly what the letter warns customers about

Hi Cowboy. I`ve never seen that site before. Makes good reading.

But why do these scams always seem to come from Nigeria? They`ve been trying it on for years, been exposed many times, but eventually they find someone who is easily parted from their money.

We have a consumer program here on BBC called Watchdog.

No matter how many times they expose get rich quick schemes, or dodgy tradesmen who "need money up front" to buy materials etc., a few weeks later there will be some new unsuspecting punter who loses their life savings to a similar scam.

People never learn unfortunately.

Your,e exactly right Dennis, theres a sucker born every minute. The biggest problem with nigeria is no one has control over Them, no extradition, & no way to punish Them. I gues its all a lot of them know as far as making money.

But the biggest problem is GREED, Thats what most of the victims are guilty of. Allthough , not illegal in most cases, its amazing what someone will do if they think They can get away with something To make an extra buck with little or no work. Its just a shame so many Senior citizens have been there target & most have lost There life,s savings.

But then again, magazine publishers & other sweepstakes gimmick companys , have been doing it for years , ( legally Somehow ). I have a friend that His Dad has spent over 100 hundred thousand dollars on magazine subscriptions & He doesn,t even read them > Its just a shame. Sorry didn,t mean to high jack the thread it just gets Me how some people aren,t aware of the crooks out there. Have a good day. Cowboy
