How To Build a "good" plain Computer?

This is a question for the computer know-how experts.

Sometimes I wonder about the many oldish & UNused software Program Applications that originally came along with our Computer units. Surely since they are using up some space and a lot of them seldom or even never used by the Computer owner/user, wouldn't it be advisable to somehow perhaps delete them to make way for better and more practical up-to-date software programs? Better still if the un-needed sections of our Computers could be turned in for re-cycling purpose or something like a trade-off?:)

[On the one hand as consumers we should be given more choice, like if it's 'Security' we would like to top as one of the descriptive feature elements we would like to have in the Computers we buy, then WHY couldn't the manufacturing industry strive for that first and foremost? WHY do the consumers/end-users have to worry on the 'safety' of their Computers? Is this the fault of the Industry itself per se or maybe society as a whole? (The latter issue touches on working ethics, moral decency outlook/value & economic policy throughout society.) We all know US-manufactured big-ticket items like cars and Computers used to be longer-lasting, more fuel/energy-efficient and generally of 'better' quality than they do nowadays..]

Going back to my main thread, for a novice Newbie who's trying to rebuild his own first Computer, what are the basic essential parts & components needed to construct a running machine (without the 'glitzy' accessories)?

What think you All? Thank you.
