Tom419
What browser are you using? Windows Xp Home. I just ran SFC but not sure if it fixed anything. Also had gotten a iexplore.exe Application error. Something about the memory could not be read ~ Thanks Please see attachment
TheFiresInTheSky
you can try upping the paging file size, not sure if that would help though. right click on my computer>advanced>preformance (first option)>paging file size. id up it to double what it recommends for max and a couple hundred under that for min. Tom419
Thanks for the reply. I sent an attachment of my virt. memory which I guess is my paging file??
Moderators rridgely Posted October 23, 2006 Moderators Share Posted October 23, 2006 Just to be sure download this: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTSetup.exe Open it up and choose scan and save log file. Then paste the log onto the forum. ----------- That error could mean all kinds of things. Anything from your ram being bad(unlikely if a new computer) or it was just a random thing(does it happen frequently?). With the Hijackthis log I will be able to see what you have running as well so maybe that will help.
Tom419
Hello this is my HJT file. In addition I removed AVG anti spyware and I believe I see some improvement in opening pages. Still see my desktop background slow to open after the computer has been on for a short while with black color behind the task tray by the clock and then completley opening. I'm leaning towards a memory issue or possibly graphics card. Just a guess however. ~ Thanks Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 7:46:31 PM, on 10/23/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\AOLAcsd.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\TopSpeed\2.0\aoltsmon.exe C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\Apache.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\Apache.exe C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\3M\PSNotes\psn.exe C:\Program Files\r2 Studios\HideOE\HideOE.exe C:\Program Files\outlook express\msimn.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\dllhost.exe C:\Program Files\Diskeeper Corporation\Diskeeper\DkService.exe C:\PROGRA~1\3M\PSNotes\PSNGive.exe C:\Program Files\ewido anti-malware\ewidoctrl.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\IWP\NPFMntor.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\Program Files\UPHClean\uphclean.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxssvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Console\NSCSRVCE.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\devldr32.exe C:\Program Files\HardCopy Pro\HardCopy Pro.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\COMPAN~1\Installs\cpn\YTBSDK.exe C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Moderators rridgely Posted October 24, 2006 Moderators Share Posted October 24, 2006 Generally the rule is you have 1.5 times the amount of ram on your computer for virtual memory. I always just set it to system managed personally. Anyway are you noticing any improvement since changing it? Also I would try disabling norton firewall temporarily and see if that fixes your refresh issues.
Tom419
Also I would try disabling norton firewall temporarily and see if that fixes your refresh issues. I do not have Nortons firewall installed. Only Norton 2006 Antivirus. Even wiith me changing my paging file I'm still having to refresh pages quite often. This site included. I would get the CCleaner heading before any of the actual page and then the page would come up. ~ Tom

Tom419
Your using AOL dial up right? Also just to make sure I understand the problem right... Your internet is not loading pages completely so you have to press refresh until they load up correctly? I have a broadband connection. I think I have it fixed. Correcting the page file size was the culprit. If you read my post you will see I enabled windows to manage the page file size for me. I enabled it for both hard drives even though I know I can have it only on one. I may make a seperate partition on my 2nd drive solely for the page file. 5 gigs should be good. ~ Thanks for everones help

Errr, not if he actually uses AOL he won't. AOL, on broadband, will NOT work without the connectivity service. I have tested and proved as such. If you stop the service running whilst AOL is open, AOL crashes. Remove the connectivity service altogether and it will prompt to reinstall at next startup. The broadband connection will still work assuming you don't have to sign on to AOL to connect but the browser won't start without it (personally I don't use the AOL browser but thought I should point this out just in case Tom does). The Top Speed thing is part of AOL9 and an attempt to speed up web browsing with the AOL browser but its hopeless anyway and before I converted to Firefox I always had it disabled. Moderators rridgely Posted October 25, 2006 Moderators Share Posted October 25, 2006 Really? Hmm... I wasn't aware of that. So they make you run their software even on broadband? I have the broadband connection permanently connected using a DUN connection so don't need that service, but if I start the AOL browser (which is rarely) that service is needed.
