Humpty
Think I will be sticking with XP for a bit after the official release of Vista to see how things pan out. Quote: PC users switching to Windows Vista next year might have a tougher time getting their security software to work properly, according to Symantec. The security specialist claims two new features in Microsoft?s next desktop OS (operating system) ? an enhanced Windows Security Center as well as a feature in the 64bit version of Vista called PatchGuard ? will make it harder for customers to use third-party software. "There's no question that Microsoft is leveraging a monopolistic position to limit customer choice," said Symantec spokesperson Chris Paden. Eldmannen
I think that Symantec is pissed because Microsoft don't make a way to allow them to replace the Windows Security Center with their own thing or something like that. I wont be using Vista either though. You need a state-of-the-art graphics card with huge amounts of RAM and much processor power just to run the graphical user interface. You thought WGA and Active Registration in XP was a itch with a b? Wait until Vista. Vista with its new DRM will perform useless operating such as encryption video in its PVP (Protected Video Path) system, because they want make it more difficult to rip videos and stuff. So basically it does nothing good for you, and waste your CPU cycles. Hollywood got their will through here. The security in Vista will be better though. Normally users wont run with full administration privileges, something thats been the norm in the Unix-world for about uhm 35 years?
Admiral Ross
I think that Symantec is pissed because Microsoft don't make a way to allow them to replace the Windows Security Center with their own thing or something like that. Sure, because they know that they are BLOATWARE! I wont be using Vista either though. You need a state-of-the-art graphics card with huge amounts of RAM and much processor power just to run the graphical user interface. Another tactic to drive the computer industry and push corps. and users alike to upgrade hardware. Second, with new security measures in place it will change the entire computing world. We saw this coming years ago. TPA, if memory serves me correct. Vista with its new DRM will perform useless operating such as encryption video in its PVP (Protected Video Path) system, because they want make it more difficult to rip videos and stuff. So basically it does nothing good for you, and waste your CPU cycles. Hollywood got their will through here. More of corps influencing what we use. More of our rights restricted or eliminated all together. The security in Vista will be better though. Normally users wont run with full administration privileges, something thats been the norm in the Unix-world for about uhm 35 years? Of course M$ is finally playing catching up.
