pop ups

Recommended Posts

I have ccleaner on 4 home computers. Each one has an edge browser popup on reboot or wakeup. People have repeatedly told me one of my apps is causing this. So out of curiosity I uninstalled ccleaner on one computer and the popups stopped. What do I do?

What does the popup say? Can you post a screenshot of one?

I'm trying to work out if they are coming from CCleaner, which they may well be depending on certain settings, or if they are from Edge itself.

We should be able to tell you how to stop it, but a screenshot would help identify which setting(s) need changing and in which app.

What does the popup actually say?

Or are you saying that it's not a popup and it's the Edge Browser opening itself on startup?
See this for various ways to stop it doing that:

Can you tell me if you have Fast Boot  (sometimes known as Fast Startup) enabled on your machines?

Start--Settings--Power and sleep ----Additional Power Settings (on right hand side of page)---Choose what the power buttons do----then look to see if Fast start is enabled or disabled. If it's enabled and you want to see if it helps your problem by disabling it, click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' (which is at the top of that last page)

I keep mine disabled...always.

Please check Hazelnut's advice.

And also the setting for 'Startup Boost' in Edge itself, turn it off.

But you still haven't  confirmed just what problem you are having.

Is it a popup, or a browser opening? Does it happen all the time or only occasionally?

You belive it's caused by CCleaner, it may be, but does it only happen after you have run CCleaner? What happens on the machines that still have CCleaner installed if you don't actually run CCleaner?

It appears that the lock screen thing may be working. I don't get how it's connected to ccleaner.

What do you mean by Lock Screen thing?

Did you mean Fast Start.

To be sure, where did you get ccleaner from ? If not the official page you may have a problem

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.
