Well after my recent reinstall I've managed to do without the majority of my previous 35ish extensions. Currently just 14:

1. AdblockPlusElementHidingHelper{1.0.1}

2. AdblockPlus{0.7.5.1}

3. CustomizeGoogle{0.60}

4. CuteMenus-CrystalSVG{1.9.1}

5. DownThemAll{0.9.9.10}

6. DownloadManagerTweak{0.7.2}

7. DuplicateTab{0.9}

8. FirefoxExtensionBackupExtensionFEBE{4.0.5.0.0.0}

9. McAfeeSiteAdvisor{26.3}

10. MenuEditor{1.2.3.3}

11. SessionManager{0.5.3.4}

12. TryAgain{2.0}

13. openselectedlinks{2006.01.14}

14. toolbarmode{0.7.0}

Think a few more may creep back though - Gmail notifier, Google Toolbar (or some other extension that will highlight search results).

Um, that would be AdBlock wouldn't it? What filter list are you using?

I just right click on the ads and do "adblock image" and "adblock iframe". But, for Flash ads, it just gives me the options for the Flash player.

Well theres your problem, you wanna use a filter list or you'll never get on top of the ads. If your using the original Adblock use FiltersetG:

http://www.pierceive.com/filtersetg/ (Read the instructions for how to add them to Adblock)

If your using Adblock Plus (which you really should be now as Adblock hasn't been updated for a long time and Plus is better in several areas) there are filter subsriptions here:

http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions (I use Easylist and Easy Element)

Make sure your using the one of the filter subscriptions too, then you should see virtually no ads anywhere (Easylist is the only one I'd recommend) and with AdBlock Plus they automatically update so you set and forget :)

Thanks. I got Easylist and EasyElement. Do you know what is causing the lyrics on Myspace music player to not show up? I disabled both pop-ups and ad-blocking from Norton(when I had it), and the pop-up blocker in Firefox, but nothing still didn't come up.

Can you give us a link to an example page (don't use Myspace so not sure what you mean)

Well, the only site I really have that type of problem is on Myspace. Whenever I go to a band's profile, and try to view their lyrics, nothing happens.

Just had a look and it looks like its an activeX issue - the Myspace player is an activeX control in IE and Firefox doesn't allow any activeX controls as they can be a security risk (the 'Comments' and 'Rate' links don't work either do they). If Myspace was any good they would have found a way to make the site work normally in Firefox but they obviously haven't.

Oh okay. I guess I'll contact them about it and see what their plans are, because I know I'm not the only Firefox user on Myspace :P

Try the mediawrap plugin: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1879

This sexy baby can transparently wrap ActiveX into the Plugins which supported by firefox. You can just link the media files(Wmplayer, Rmplayer, QtPlayer and FlashPlayer) as normally without security problems.

Once you have installed MediaWrap you can test it on this site:

And here is a site to test the myspace player

ps: Thanx for the 'plug" JD ^_^

NP, just made the switch to ABP after a recent reformat and the Easylist Filters have improved since I last tried them a few months ago, enough for me to feel happy using them now ;)

I like the Element Hiding Helper for ABP too, not quite up there with RIP for removing exact elements (too often removes more than I select) but still good and will hopefully improve over time.

After highlighting, try using the "N" and "W" keys to zero in on the exact element that you need to hide. Hiding elements is tricky because some can be duplicated within the document. You really need to find something specific to the element that is not contained in the rest of the page. You can also use EHH to x-path to an element from a more defined element before that one.

I'm aware of that. I'll give you the most recent example I've come across. On Google results pages like this one, I tried to hide the bottom block where it says "Google Home - Advertising Programmes - Business Solutions - About Google" but although it highlights that it always takes away the blue section just above it. This is something that RIP could, and did, handle without to much difficulty (creating my own x-paths is way above me).

I still really like the Element Hiding Helper and I don't intend to go back to RIP (which also had some minor issues though it handled the core stuff really well), its just something I hope will improve as it is developed.

It not as hard as you think with EHH in the 'Advance view'. All you have to do is select that TABLE with the google footer links in it. You'll see the x-path elements just above them.

Select your TABLE variables for TABLE (just like always) ... but THEN select the HR item just above that and that variable. The code will be generated and you end up with:

google.co.uk##HR.z + TABLE[width=100%][cellpadding=2]

Works like a charm ;)

Ok thanks for that, got it blocking just the section I wanted but don't fully understand it. Will be a slight case of trial and error in future I think but you have helped point me in the right direction, thanks ;)

At a mere 100-ish mb. :D

I now have 43 extensions actually, and it's running at 118mb right now. Quite to my dismay it is still awesomely fast.

FingerPrintLogin 0.5.2.7-2007-07-17 (No download or website available yet)

Get a fingerprint reader to be able to work with firefox whenever a site asks for a password.

This is one of my own extensions that i'm still developing, but i will NEVER release my work before it hase reached a stable state to prevent a lot of complaints asking why it wont work here and there bla bla bla. Whenever a site needs a password that is stored in the database, it will automatically popup a window asking to input a finger to login to the site. When a site askes for a password which hasn't been stored in the database (all specially encrypted), the user must place any recognised finger into the reader and a window pops up asking for the username and password. when the username and password for the new site is noted, it then immediately asks for a finger to be able to login to the site. it does this to check if every thing went correct
