CCleaner 6.00/6.01 Portable not Available

OLLI_S

Recommended Posts

At work I am not allowed to install any applications, but I can execute applications that are located in a specific folder.
So I can only use CCleaner Portable at work.

Recently version 6.0.9727 of CCleaner was released, but only the installer version.
The portable file name is still ccsetup592.zip

So, please release 6.0.9727 also as potable!
Thank you!

I've already questioned this and apparently there are a few issues doing a portable of CCleaner v6.00 because of programming changes.

So if you download the portable you will still get v5.92.

I'm told that the issues can be resolved and there should be  a v6.01 portable next month.

Portable skipped this update while they work out folder setup (remember last version's terrible 64bit 32 bit folder that borked portability)

The portable version is still not available, any idea when it will be released?

Portable versions are built out separately to the main releases and may be released some time later, or may skip versions where new functionality needs time to be adapted to the portable configuration.  As per the notes above, there will not be a portable version of CCleaner 6.0 this month, but it is likely to resume either with the upcoming CCleaner 6.01 or 6.02.

  • Dave CCleaner changed the title to CCleaner 6.00/6.01 Portable not Available

I'm also looking forward to continued portable releases.  At least for me, I'm fine if it doesn't have the Performance Optimizer or Driver Updater or Software Updater, as I'm not planning on using these (much too much "feature creep" for my preference).

In the meantime, I noticed that the portable version v5.92 was replaced with v5.91 on the official ccleaner.com download page.  What's the story?  Was this intentional?  Is there a serious problem with v5.92 (besides the following, which has an easy workaround: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/62829-592-portable-broken/ )?

Hi Peaform:

Dave CCleaner's 20-Jun-2022 announcement <above> states that "As such, for the time being we have rolled back the portable version on the website to 5.91 until we can come up with a satisfactory solution ".

There were bigger problems with CCleaner Portable v5.92 than the problem with non-English languages that mogli reported in 5.92 portable broken.  See my 04-Jun-2022 post in bgavin's Bug Report: Portable 6.0.0.9727 for Windows about all the unexpected registry entries and Task Scheduler tasks that were created on my system by this buggy v5.92 release.  According to Andavari's 06-Jun-2022 post <here> in bgavin's thread the registry entries were created because the portable.dat file was not located in the same folder as CCleaner.exe and CCleaner64.exe executables in CCleaner Portable v5.92.  I now have to manually remove all these unnecessary registry keys and tasks from my system and will be going back to using CCleaner Portable v5.91 for now.

I agree with your comment about Performance Optimizer, Software Updater, etc.  I only use the Custom Clean feature and I suspect that most CCleaner Portable users would actually prefer to have many of the "extra" features like Performance Optimizer, etc, removed from the portable build.

Hi OLLI_S:

CCleaner v6.02 was released today (20-Jul-2022) but the official builds page at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds is still recommending the ccsetup591.zip for CCleaner Portable v5.91.9537 (rel. 16-Mar-2022). ☹️

When I see it properly, then there are also no portable versions of Speccy and Recuva available (at least not the current versions).

Hi OLLI_S:

Please see my 20-Jun-2022 response in CCleaner 6.00/6.01 Portable Not Available to employee Dave CCleaner's comments on this subject.  We were told in October 2019 that  the portable builds of Speccy, Defraggler and Recuva would be "reestablished shortly" on their respective builds pages (e.g., at https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy/builds for Speccy) but those download links are still missing, in spite of Piriform's insistence that these portable builds "have not died".

The situation with CCleaner Portable is a bit different because Piriform is still posting a ccsetup591.zip file on the CCleaner builds page at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds.  The only major issue with CCleaner Portable is that the recommended ccsetup591.zip was released back in March 2022 and will continue to be a few versions behind the "standard" CCleaner installer until Piriform fixes the buggy file structure in CCleaner Portable.  That will hopefully occur when the upcoming CCleaner v6.03 is released next month.

Hi OLLI_S:

Just a warning that I launched CCleaner Free Portable v5.91 today (the Portable version currently recommended at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds) and saw a pop-up in my system tray asking me to download the buggy v6.02 files, in spite of the fact that I have all automatic updating and available update checks disabled at Options | Updates.  I chose "Remind Me Later" to stay on v5.91.

See my 31-Jul-2022 post in mogil's 5.92 portable broken [download 5.91 from website] for further details.

Any update for CCleaner 6.02  portable ?

Hi Moustik:

Please see employee johnccleaner's 22-Jul-2022 post <above>. CCleaner Portable v5.91 is still the recommended version at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds and Avast/Piriform is hoping (but no promising) to release an updated Portable version when CCleaner v6.03 is eventually released.

Just an FYI that CCleaner Portable v6.03.10002 (ccsetup603.zip) has been posted on the official builds page at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds and when I unzipped I could see that the executable files are now back in their correct location in the "root" directory with portable.dat.  I haven't had time to test thoroughly to see if this version creates any unwanted registry entries or scheduled tasks but so far everything looks okay.

The release notes for v6.03.10002 at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/version-history only say "We fixed an issue that would cause a loss of settings in CCleaner Portable".

I have a 64-bit Win 10 OS and use the default English interface and the image below shows the only unzipped files I normally keep .  Note that I only use the Custom Clean feature and don't use other features like Health Check, Software Updater, etc. .  The only difference I noticed about Custom Clean in v6.03.10002 is that cleaning of my Apple Install files and Firefox Bookmark Backups were enabled by default on my first scan, and I don't want those files cleaned automatically.

don't work for me, doesn't launch. Windows 10 Professionnel 21H2 19044.1889...

Hi Moustik:

Do you mean nothings happens when you unzip the ccsetup603.zip downloaded from the official builds page at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds and then double-click on the extracted CCleaner64.exe file (assuming your Win 10 OS is 64-bit), or do you see some sort of error message or warning?  Since this is a portable utility I usually copy and paste the extracted CCleaner folders and files over to a removable USB thumb drive in a folder I created myself (e.g., I like keeping all my portable apps in a folder on that USB thumb drive called D:\Portable - I save my extracted CCleaner folders and files in a subfolder I named D:\Portable\CCleaner) but that CCleaner64.exe file should launch correctly from any location as long as portable.dat is in the same folder.

Also note that I keep the same ccleaner.ini file I used with the previous versions of CCleaner Portable  (i.e., the .ini file that stores all my custom settings) in D:\Portable\CCleaner and just re-use it so I don't have to reconfigure my custom settings every time a new version of CCleaner Portable is released.

What antivirus do you use? When a new version of CCleaner is released it sometimes takes a few days for the executables to be whitelisted (unblocked) by some antivirus scan engines, but I uploaded the new CCleaner64.exe to VirusTotal.com for analysis today and the report <here> gives that .exe file a detection rating of 0/68, which means that none of the 68 popular antivirus scan engines listed in that VirusTotal report detect the latest CCleaner64.exe as suspicious or malicious.

Hi Moustik:

Before you edited your post <above> you said you were using ccPortable, the PortableApps version of CCleaner.  As far as I know that PortableApps version is not endorsed or licensed by Piriform, the developers of the official CCleaner Portable build (ccsetup603.zip) available at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds, so I would suggest you post in the PortableApps forum at https://portableapps.com/forums and ask them if remnants of ccPortable could prevent Piriform's official CCleaner Portable build from launching correctly.

Note that Piriform advised users to continue using CCleaner Portable v5.91.9537 (rel. 16-Mar-2022) until CCleaner Portable v6.03.10002 was released on 22-Aug-2022 (i.e., Piriform pulled the buggy CCleaner Portable v5.92 from their official builds page at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds and did not release CCleaner Portable v6.00, v6.01 or v6.02 on that builds page due to "compatibility issues").  If you installed PortableApps' ccPortable v5.92, v6.00, v6.01 and/or v6.02 I have no idea what problems, if any, this might cause on your system or whether this is why the official CCleaner Portable v6.03.10002 (i.e., unzipped from ccsetup603.zip) won't launch correctly now.

Hi Steve Kvin:

Did you use the Portable version of CCleaner v5.92 (e.g., the ccsetup592.zip file that you downloaded from https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds) that can be unzipped and run from any location, or did you actually install CCleaner v5.92 on your computer using ccsetup592.exe or one of the other self-extracting .exe installers that was listed on that download page?  The problems being discussed in this thread only affected the Portable version of CCleaner.

Note that the https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds download page is now offering CCleaner v6.03.10002 (released 22-Aug-2022) and it is now safe to update to this latest version, whether you use CCleaner Portable or an installed edition of CCleaner.

You might also want to clarify what you mean by "As if i sign in to ccleaner than i will protected from latest virus".  CCleaner is basically a disk cleaner that can clean your browser cookies, temporary Windows files, etc., but CCleaner is not an antivirus and cannot prevent malware from infecting your system, and CCleaner will not automatically detect and remove malware like a true antivirus program. If you require further assistance let us know your computer model, Windows operating system, your antivirus, and which product (CCleaner Free, CCleaner Professional or CCleaner Cloud for Business) you are using.
