Judesman
I recently downloaded the new Chromium Edge with the new wave icon. The old Microsoft Edge has disappeared from my computer. However, in C Cleaner on the left hand side under Windows I have Microsoft Edge, Chromium Edge and Internet Explorer listed. I still use IE as well as the new Edge but why is the old Microsoft Edge still displayed, there is no sign of it on my computer. Any ideas please? Moderators Nergal Posted July 3, 2020 Moderators Share Posted July 3, 2020 The old edge is still there, it's just effectively hidden. It still runs the underpinnings of windows, just not userside web browsing. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Judesman
Many thanks. I won't try to find it and delete it then.
Moderators nukecad Posted July 3, 2020 Moderators Share Posted July 3, 2020 If you need to use both Edge Chromium and Ye-Olde Edge then see this article. It is not recommended to have both active on the same machine as a regular user, but is sometimes needed by developers and support staff. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-sysupdate-access-old-edge *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? kuepper
When I analyze for a custom clean there are 100s of files (more than on my usual Firefox in number and total size) and some cookies found under Chromium Edge( TBH I didn't even know I had Chromium Edge - I can't see it in programmes - I guess it must have been installed as part of a Windows update). I've never used Edge or Chromium Edge(which I can't even find) so how can they store internet cache, cookies etc?
Moderators nukecad Posted December 15, 2020 Moderators Share Posted December 15, 2020 Edge Chromium has replaced the old Edge as the main Microsoft browser, and so it does get installed during Windows Updates to replace the old version. On the start menu and desktop it doesn't say 'Chromium' is just says 'Microsoft Edge', but it does have a new icon. PS. Old Edge is still on your machine for now for compatibility reasons. But is hidden from view and not normally used. CCleaner can still see it and clean it if needed. (Just like CCleaner can still see/clean the even older Internet Explorer which is also still on your machine). Windows apps other than Edge itself will use the same 'Edge' storage locations for temporary files, it's just a convinient place for Windows apps to put temporary/junk files. (Why create their own junk folders when there is already a bult-in one there that they can use?). Skype does it for instance, and so do various other MS apps. You may also have some Edge tasks running in the background, in which case CCleaner will be asking if you want to close Edge to clean. If that's happening to you then see this for how to stop that: *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'?
