CCleaner for Windows 10 (64 bit)

Recommended Posts

Gentlemen:

I am a long-time user of Crap Cleaner. It has always worked well for me, but somewhere, I estimate in the last two versions, it appears that CCleaner was hacked which resulted in users computers being infected with some sort of malware. I believe my anti-viral software removed the infection but the result is that files were damaged and I find that newly downloaded versions of CCleaner [vers. 5.65] will not open on my machine. I download the program, open it once, close it, and after that no more will the program open. Very frustrating...anyone know of a fix?

Some more information:

I use Trend Micro anti-viral software, but it makes no difference. I turn off the software, download CCleaner [ver. 5.65] and I still get the same outcome,,,the program opens once, I close it, and then I am unable to re-open the software. Very frustrating.

Ccleaner was hacked in the past (I think September of 2017) the last few versions in which you refer have no malware.  Your particular antivirus may be flagging it (possibly the bundled software in the installer) but it is clean (run it through virustotal and you see the majority of programs detect nothing).

Do you by chance run Trend Micro as your antivirus? If not please tell us what antivirus software you are using.and also your windows version.

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

New forum user here, I myself am a long time user of Ccleaner and recently have experienced a similar situation. I clicked on the software and got the win 10 spinning circle and then circle dissapeared and I was back to a desktop. I tried to download and reinstall and all goes well . When install finishes and asks to run program CCleaner wont start. I do use Trend Micro for virus control

 any advice would be accepted

Trend micro users have found that one of two things fixes this issue

First make sure you are running trend micro 2020 (update within the program won't do this update). It's available at https://esupport.trendmicro.com/en-us/home/pages/technical-support/maximum-security/home.aspx

Second if that doesn't fix the issue or you are already on 2020

Add ccleaner as a whitelisted program as described in
